Lakehead Constructors, Inc. is seeking a mid-level Estimator to join our team, focused on commercial and industrial construction in northern MN and northwestern WI. This position is based out of our Superior, WI office and is responsible for preparing portions of contract proposal estimates for one or more disciplines, including the determination of applicable project plans and specifications. Some travel may be required depending on project estimating requirements. The ideal candidate will be self-driven and strive for continuous improvement in a complex and dynamic work environment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: include the following (other duties may be assigned as required):
- Review proposal specifications and drawings to determine scope of work and required contents of estimate.
- Prepare disciplined estimates by calculating complete takeoff of scope of work.
- Assist and participate in project development activities including scope development, programming, conceptual estimating, budgeting, and preliminary scheduling.
- Lead and participate in the preparation of hard bid estimates, conceptual estimates, budgets, design/build and other cost determinations.
- Review final estimate packages to ensure accuracy and completeness prior to final submittal of pricing or bid.
- Participate in the preparation and presentation of estimating information to clients and corporate management as required.
- Maintain files of working documents as back-up for estimate figures, including current (accurate) information on prices from suppliers through direct contact, sales brochures, price lists, etc.
- Supporting other department personnel as required may include preparing estimates in other disciplines.
- May review design options and recommend the best solution based on cost, engineering quality, or availability of materials.
- Work with the management group to finalize documents for proposals.
- Post proposal duties for successful proposals include initial development of contracts with owners, assisting in the development of budgets, assisting with the selection of subcontractors and suppliers, and assisting with development of means and methods.
- Perform additional assignments per supervisor’s direction.
Qualifications:
Education and / or Experience
Two-year college or technical degree minimum. Four-year engineering degree or equivalent combinations technical training and/or experience preferred.
Two to five years of estimating, controls and/or engineering experience related to similar facility construction.
Industrial and/or mechanical experience a plus. Advanced knowledge of assigned discipline, estimating techniques and cost control, plus ability to interpret computerized cost data and systems essential.
Previous experience using a database type estimating system such as Trimble (WinEst), Timberline, and MC2 a plus. Experience with electronic takeoff tools such as OnCenter, Bluebeam, and Trimble (Vico).
Any equivalent combination of education and / or experience will be considered.
A qualified candidate must have a valid driver’s license, as travel to job sites will be required.

In this position you will regularly travel (as a vehicle driver and as a passenger on various modes of transportation) and occasionally perform work on-site at construction work sites.
The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to ten (10) pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to twenty-five (25) pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee views computer monitors frequently.

Noise level in the office work environment is low, field project noise levels can be moderate to loud.

Typical office hours are from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm with one hour for lunch but may fluctuate as the job requires. Position requires a minimum of a 40-hour work week.

The base salary range for this position is $70,000 - $90,000. The final base salary will be determined by several factors, including skills, education, and experience.
