A Vineyard Worker at Orfila contributes to cultivating and caring for our vineyard and grounds. This role involves hands-on tasks to ensure the health and productivity of our vines, from planting to harvesting to maintaining the beauty of our grounds.
THE DUTIES OF A VINEYARD WORKER WILL INCLUDE, BUT NOT LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING :
- Plant vines and other plants using hand tools and farm machinery.
- Build trellises to support climbing vines.
- Operate farm equipment to cultivate, fertilize, and prepare soil for optimal growth.
- Perform general maintenance and upkeep of grounds to ensure a clean and welcoming environment.
- Maintain cleanliness by collecting and disposing of trash, with a focus on guest-facing areas.
- Address and manage erosion issues to maintain the integrity of the landscape.
- Implement weed control and abatement strategies to ensure a tidy and well-maintained appearance.
- Prune vines to promote healthy growth.
- Spray vines with chemicals to control weeds, pests, fungi, and diseases.
- Irrigate the land to support crop growth and maintain soil moisture.
- Select and pick grapes based on size and ripeness, discarding damaged or over-ripened fruit.
- Load filled grape containers onto trucks for transportation.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
