The HIM Technician is responsible for ensuring that all clinical documents generated during patient encounters are collected and scanned into the EMR with the highest level of quality. HIM Technicians index the scanned images to the correct patient, encounter and document type. HIM Technicians may also perform routine disclosures of health information per HIPAA guidelines.

- HIM Technician
- Actively participates in team development, achieving dashboards, and in accomplishing department goals and objectives.
- Prepare paper charts for scanning by: removing staples and paper clips, ensuring the presence of the appropriate patient and document barcode labels, and identify poor originals.Identifies at least 98% of documents that are of poor quality.
- Scan clinical documents and review the scanned images for overall image quality; performing rescanning of poor scans.
- Index all scanned documents with the accurate assignment of patient, encounter, and document types.Indexes documents to correct encounter and document type at least 99% of the time.
- Validate the quality and accuracy of scanned images in Cerner and correct errors when identified.
- Perform basic medical record disclosures according to HIPAA and statutory guidelines.
- Provide excellent customer service to internal and external LRH customers. Effectively work within a team environment; demonstrating the ability to work collaboratively to complete routine tasks and meet established goals and standards.

- Associate Degree
- Five or more years experience in a scanning and indexing position in an acute care HIM setting.
Experience Preferred:
- One year of experience in a hospital medical record setting with additional experience in quality analysis or similar position.
- Experience in a HIMS department is a plus, but not required.
