About the Department
The Activities/Enrichment Team at Lakewood Care Center designs and organizes a variety of engaging events and programs to enhance residents' quality of life. They focus on promoting physical, mental, and emotional well-being through activities such as arts and crafts, music therapy, exercise sessions, social events, games, and outings. Their goal is to create a stimulating, supportive environment where residents feel connected, active, and valued.

Duties & Responsibilities
- Plan and organize daily activities that cater to the diverse interests and abilities of residents, including physical, mental, and creative pursuits.
- Lead and supervise the activities team, providing guidance, training, and support to staff and volunteers. Conduct regular performance discussions to assess individual progress, offer constructive feedback, and ensure that team members are meeting the goals and standards of the activities program.
- Assess individual needs and preferences to create personalized activity plans that promote engagement, independence, and well-being.
- Facilitate group and one-on-one activities such as arts and crafts, games, music therapy, exercise sessions, and social events.
- Coordinate special events and celebrations, ensuring they align with the interests and cultural backgrounds of residents.
- Collaborate with healthcare staff to ensure activities complement residents' medical and therapeutic needs.
- Monitor and record participation and feedback, adjusting programs to enhance engagement and improve quality of life.
- Provide emotional support and companionship during activities, fostering a positive and inclusive environment.
- Ensure safety and accessibility during all activities, adhering to the care center's policies and protocols.
- Engage with family members to keep them informed and involved in their loved one's activity participation.
- Stay updated on trends in elder care and incorporate best practices into activity planning.
Position Type
- Monday through Friday 08:00-4:30pm.
- No scheduled weekends.
Qualifications
- Must hold active certification as a therapeutic recreation specialist or as an activities professional by the State of MN.
- CPR certification.
- Maintain therapeutic boundaries with patients.
Ideal Candidate
- Experience in geriatrics.
- Ability to problem solve.
- Able to organize, coordinate, and prioritize tasks.
- Able to communicate effectively with customers and co-workers both verbally and in writing.
- Able to effectively lead a team.
