Job Summary
Lakin Recreation Commission is seeking a passionate and dedicated Recreation Director to oversee and enhance our community’s recreational programs and facilities. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working with people, organizing events, and fostering a vibrant community atmosphere. The Recreation Directors primary focuses will be on engaging adults, coordinating with high school athletic programs, providing diverse recreation opportunities beyond sports, and managing financial records for tax season.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop, plan, and implement recreational programs for all age groups, with a strong emphasis on adult participation.
- Collaborate with local high schools to support youth sports programs and help shape sports development in the community.
- Schedule creation and scheduling officials in a timely manner for all programs
- Organize non-sports recreation activities, including but not limited to arts programs, wellness workshops, social gatherings, outdoor adventures, and hobby-based clubs.
- Manage and maintain parks, sports fields, and community recreation facilities in correspondence with maintenance supervisor.
- Create tailored programs for adults, such as fitness classes, skill-building workshops, and leadership roles within the recreation department.
- Encourage volunteerism and leadership roles for adults in recreation programs.
- Prepare and manage the department’s budget, including grant applications and fundraising efforts.
- Ensure accurate financial record-keeping and assist in tax preparation for the recreation department to ensure compliance with town, county and state policies.
- Work with town officials to ensure tax compliance and accurate reporting.
- Supervise and train recreation staff and volunteers.
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations and town policies.
- Communicating and working with school, town, county, and state representatives over any needs or issues that may occur.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Recreation Management, Sports Administration, Public Administration, Accounting, or a related field (preferred but not required)
- Experience in recreation programming, community engagement, and event planning.
- Experience and Knowledge in sports management
- Experience in field maintenance and preparation
- Knowledge of budgeting, financial management, and basic tax preparation (preferred)
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work with high school athletic directors, coaches, and local sports organizations.
- Experience in developing diverse recreation programs beyond sports.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends as needed.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: From $60,000.00 per year
