The Senior Mechanical Technical/Design Reviewer will serve as a technical resource on behalf of the Owner to review and validate Mechanical deliverables. This role ensures that the Mechanical scope is aligned with the Owner’s goals, project budget, code compliance, and long-term operational efficiency. Position Overview:
The Senior Mechanical Technical/Design Reviewer will serve as a technical resource on behalf of the Owner to review and validate Mechanical deliverables. This role ensures that the Mechanical scope is aligned with the Owner’s goals, project budget, code compliance, and long-term operational efficiency. The ideal candidate brings a strong design background, construction insight, and a proactive approach to identifying and resolving issues early in design.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead comprehensive technical reviews of mechanical designs, drawings, specifications, and reports from schematic design through construction documents
- Verify that designs align with project performance criteria, Owner's project requirements, and regulatory codes (ASHRAE, NFPA, etc.)
- Assess system integration, equipment sizing, redundancy, energy efficiency, and maintainability
- Provide written commentary, redlines, and review logs with actionable recommendations
- Coordinate with other technical reviewers (electrical, structural, architectural, etc.) for interdisciplinary alignment
- Attend design coordination and review meetings with the Project Management Office, and the design-builder and represent Owner interests
- Work closely with Owner’s internal facilities, maintenance, and sustainability teams to ensure systems meet operational needs post-construction
- Review mechanical submittals, shop drawings, RFIs, and proposed value engineering (VE) items
- Participate in factory witness testing, inspections, and field verification of installed systems for conformance with approved design
- Provide input on commissioning plans and performance verification testing
Education & Credentials
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
- Professional Engineer (PE) license required
- LEED Accreditation, CEM, or similar sustainability credential preferred
- 10 years of mechanical design experience, with at least 5 years in a senior QA/QC or design reviewer role
- Experience in complex design-build projects in sectors such as healthcare, transportation, higher education, or civic infrastructure
- Proven track record of working collaboratively in an owner’s representative, design-build, or CM-at-risk environment
- Deep knowledge of mechanical systems, codes, and industry standards
- Ability to critique engineering documents constructively and communicate clearly with design and construction teams
- Familiarity with design and analysis tools (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, Bluebeam, etc.)
- Excellent documentation, communication, and client-facing skills
