POSITION TITLE:
Junior Buyer
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Primary Purpose: To assist with the purchasing functions of the school district.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Major Responsibilities and Duties
1. Assist Director of Purchasing and Materials Management with the organization of routine work activities in the Purchasing department, including performing administrative tasks, assisting in vendor management, and the review of requisitions.
2. Maintain a current and prospective vendor list/database and catalog resources.
3. Disseminate purchasing information to schools and departments.
4. Promote positive relationships with schools, departments, vendors and the community.
5. Identify additional sources to obtain competitive prices and terms.
6. Check for proper use of commodity codes, budget codes, solicitation information, and cooperating purchasing organizations.
7. Assist with maintaining records of purchasing transactions and compiling reports as needed.
8. Assist with other purchasing related tasks as directed by the Director, Purchasing & Materials Management.

EXPERIENCE:
Minimum Experience
- Two years of administrative experience in school district or government purchasing experience preferred
- Experience working with ERP systems
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Education/Certification:
- High school diploma or G.E.D.
- TASBO certification preferred
- Valid Texas driver’s license
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Knowledge of school accounting codes and procedures
- Knowledge of school law statutes regarding purchasing
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Ability to analyze and organize a filing system
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
OTHER INFORMATION:
Working Conditions
Mental/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
- Heavy lifting and carrying (45 pounds and over), reaching above shoulders, use of fingers, walking, specific visual requirements, using computer and reading small print. Works around machinery with moving parts, heavy traffic through office.
