What are the responsibilities and job description for the Student Assistant for Student Activities position at Lamar State College-Port Arthur?
- Be the attendant at the Information Desk on the 2nd floor of the Student Center.
- Ensure that students visiting the campus receive information promoting events and activities on campus.
- Control the use of gaming systems and secure equipment to ensure that controllers and games are accounted for.
- Monitor and record the weekly visits of students, faculty, and staff to the NEST.
- Update spreadsheets for the NEST (pantry & supply closet) and gaming equipment.
- Have outstanding communication and customer service skills.
- Provide information and assistance to students regarding upcoming events and activities.
- Address inquiries and resolve issues promptly and professionally.
- Perform clerical duties, such as filing, data entry, and maintaining records.
- Manage event registration and attendance tracking.
- Handle correspondence and communication with students, faculty, and external vendors.
- Assist in organizing and promoting student events, including Welcome Week, cultural celebrations, and special interest activities.
- Support the preparation of event materials, such as Rental & Facility forms, flyers, posters, and social media content.
- Coordinate event logistics, including room reservations, equipment setup, and catering arrangements.
- Assist with the physical setup and teardown of event spaces, including arranging furniture, setting up audio-visual equipment, and decorating.
- Ensure event spaces are clean and organized before and after events.
- Engage with students to promote participation in events and activities.
- Utilize social media platforms to advertise events and share updates.
- Contribute to the creation of newsletters and other promotional materials.
- Update bulletin boards with information related to the Student Activities Department.
- Complete other duties as assigned.
Must be in good academic standing and maintaining satisfactory academic progress. Must maintain a 2.0 GPA or better. Must be enrolled at least a half-time basis of at least six hours during the Fall/Spring semesters, or at least three semester hours during each of the summer sessions, for a total of six semester hours. Must be a citizen of the United States, a U.S. national or permanent resident.
Preferred Qualifications
Typing, copy machine, excellent phone etiquette, knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel. Power Point is a plus. Must have excellent customer service skills, a great can-do attitude and Seahawk spirit. Must be reliable and able to follow instructions. This is a valuable work experience and makes an excellent addition for future employment reference.
Salary 8.50 hourly Work Hours Students can work at up to 20 hours a week but, they cannot exceed 20 hours a week.
