Job Description Summary
This position is responsible for operating and maintaining the Plant’s environmental processes including but not limited to: Domestic Water System, Industrial Wastewater and Land Application systems including pretreatment and reclamation, Air Pollution Control equipment, Potable and Process Water Delivery, Solid Waste Management, and analytical and recordkeeping associated with these systems.
Job Description
- Follow all plant safety policies and procedures. Be actively involved in safety, participate in safety programs, engaged in safety activities, and demonstrate ownership as well as leadership in personal safety and the safety of other team members.
- Monitor and operate water source, chlorination, and treatment plant equipment in accordance with specified procedures through direct observation and human machine interface (HMI) system. This includes, but not limited to, levels, flows and pressures of running equipment.
- Monitor treatment process by collecting samples in accordance with specified procedures by performing physical and chemical field and laboratory sample analyses.
- Perform laboratory analyses on samples collected in accordance with specified procedures.
- Review and interpret data results from analyses. Perform process changes and adjustments as needed to maintain correct operation of system.
- Maintain effective treatment processes by managing and dosing correct amounts of chemicals in accordance with specified procedures.
- Record meter readings and laboratory test data into daily communication logs and computer system.
- Operate, maintain, and calibrate sensors for temperature, pH, dissolved oxygen, turbidity, level and pressures.
- Repair and adjust water source, chlorination, and treatment facilities.
- Manage wastewater solids, potato by-product, oil waste, water usage, etc.
- Notify by-product hauling trucks when appropriate to maintain proper levels.
- Correct minor mechanical problems and perform assigned preventive maintenance duties on a regular basis.
- Follow good housekeeping practices and Good Manufacturing Practices.
- Wear required Personal Protective Equipment.
- Actively participate in Continuous Improvement activities.
- Perform any other duties as assigned by the Water Treatment Team Leader
Basic & Preferred Qualifications
- 1 years of experience in wastewater treatment, chemical lab, and/or food processing, preferred
- Required to qualify and safely drive a company vehicle and maintain eligibility to drive
- Read, understand, and obey all plant rules and practice safety as outlined in the employee handbook
- Demonstrate ability to apply Math skills for system management
- Demonstrate ability to infer and decipher results and make appropriate adjustments
- Demonstrate ability to communicate verbally and through use of Microsoft SharePoint
- Demonstrate basic understanding of computer applications such as Microsoft Office, SAP, QA Data Systems
- Demonstrate understanding of troubleshooting and problem solving of systems
- Practice proper body mechanics and safe lifting techniques
- Be knowledgeable of the potential hazards and safety procedures associated with the task being performed
- Actively practice and abide by all Company work, safety, and personal hygiene rules and regulations as outlined in the employee handbook
- Be able to work independently and as a team player
- Be organized and plan ahead
- Be able to lift 50 pounds unassisted, and in a safe manner
- Available to work overtime, days, nights, and weekends (12 hour shifts 4:3 schedule)
- Water Treatment Operator Rate Increase
- Pay Rate will increase for each level the operator achieves
- Trainee
- System Qualified Operator (Achieved within 4 months in job position)
- Completion of training certification of Pretreatment area, LRAD area, Reclamation area (2 sections, MBR And RO) and Domestic area required to achieve System Qualified Operator status
- Final System examination of Hermiston Waste Treatment must be passed with a score of 70% or better to qualify
- Operator has two chances to pass the System Operation exam. Failure to pass the second exam may result in disqualification from department
- Qualified Operator (Achieve - within 6 months in job position)
- Qualified Operator status should be achieved no later than 2 months after gaining System Qualified Operator status
- Final Lab examination of Hermiston Waste Treatment must be passed with a score of 70% or better to be qualified
- Operator has two chances to pass Lab exam. Failure to pass second exam may result in disqualification from department
- ODEQ C1/T1 WWT Certified Operator (Eligible within 12-24 months in job position)
- Possession of a high school diploma or GED is required for achieving any and all levels of Certified Operator status
- Lamb Weston will reimburse for first exam fees regardless of pass or failed score
- Lamb Weston will reimburse up to $200 in approved training courses prior to examination, if applicable
- If a second test is required to obtain certification, Lamb Weston will only reimburse upon receiving confirmation of a passing score
- Any further testing or training undertaken to achieve this level of Certified Operator status is the sole responsibility of the operator and will not be reimbursed by Lamb Weston
- ODEQ C1/T2 WWT Certified Operator (Eligible after 24-36 months in job position)
- Lamb Weston will reimburse for first exam fees regardless of pass or failed score
- If a second test is required to obtain certification, Lamb Weston will only reimburse for a passing score
- Any further testing or training undertaken to achieve this level of Certified Operator status is the sole responsibility of the operator and will not be reimbursed by Lamb Weston
- OHA C1/D1 WT Certified Operator (Eligible after 24 months in job position)
- Lamb Weston will reimburse for first exam fees regardless of pass or failed score
- If a second test is required to obtain certification, Lamb Weston will only reimburse for a passing score
- Any further testing or training undertaken to achieve this level of Certified Operator status is the sole responsibility of the operator and will not be reimbursed by Lamb Weston
- Any certification higher than the ones listed are the sole responsibility of the operator and will not be recognized for pay rate increases.
- Lamb Weston may, from time-to-time facilitate Continuous Educational Units (CEU’s) for the operators, however; operators are solely responsible for all CEU’s associated with their certification levels. Lamb Weston will reimburse costs for CEU’s required to maintain their certification levels
Education
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required
Oregon State certified Wastewater Operator I or II (preferred)
Language Skills
Effectively communicate in English, verbally and in writing. Ability to understand instructions and follow directions in English.
