What are the responsibilities and job description for the Water Treatment Operator position at Linkan?
The Water Treatment Operator will be responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient operation of various processing equipment, including but not limited to water treatment systems, solution balance, sample collection, data recording, and retrieval of sample data. This includes the proper handling of potentially hazardous chemicals, monitoring and controlling water and slurry flows, reagent addition, and the operation of pumps, valves, piping, and other related equipment. The contractor will also be responsible for making necessary calculations and adjustments to maintain operating parameters within specified limits. Regular inspections and checks of all components of operating systems and equipment will be required to ensure functionality and compliance with safety standards.
Essential duties include:
- Operate and maintain water and/or wastewater treatment equipment in accordance with state and federal environmental protection limits, as well as any agreed-upon company policies and standards.
- Prepare and submit required reports, including meter readings, tests, chemical usage, and other related records, while adhering to any state regulations and contractual obligations.
- Safely handle a variety of chemicals, including lime, chloride, caustic, mercury, etc., in accordance with safety standards and any provided training.
- Clean and maintain treatment plant facilities and ensure that housekeeping standards are met as outlined in the contract.
- Perform mechanical tasks within the scope of training and expertise, as necessary.
- Operate small frontend loaders, forklifts, skid steer loaders, and dozers as needed for specific job assignments, based on contract specifications.
- Complete pre-shift inspections, equipment checks, and other relevant pre-operation procedures, ensuring safety and functionality.
- Report and address safety or environmental concerns immediately, in line with project guidelines and local regulations.
- Work with minimal on-site supervision but maintain regular check-ins with the assigned Operations Representative or project supervisor.
- Operate with a degree of autonomy, with the ability to make decisions within the scope of the project or tasks, while seeking guidance on more complex or unusual issues.
- Plan and execute assignments involving significant or complex projects, ensuring timely delivery and adherence to contractual obligations.

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
Specific skills and experience are as follows:
- Reverse osmosis (RO) experience preferred.
- Microfiltration experience preferred.
- Clarification (circular clarifier) experience preferred.
- Ability to navigate rough terrain, including walking up, down, and over uneven surfaces, as well as climbing stairways, catwalks, liners, and pads.
- Ability to perform general labor tasks, such as shoveling, lifting up to 50 lbs., and working at heights.
- Willingness to work in adverse weather conditions as required by the project.
- Previous experience operating small front-end loaders, dozers, and lifting equipment preferred.
- Prior experience as an operator or in labor-intensive roles preferred.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to ensure effective coordination with teams and stakeholders.
- General understanding of mining operations preferred.
- Basic computer and technology skills required for data recording and communication.
- Ability to travel frequently, including flying, as required for the project or contract duties.
