Senior Underwriter – Large Casualty (Central Region) – Remote in IL
About the Role
We are seeking a skilled Senior Underwriter to focus on Large National Casualty Accounts within the Central Region. This remote position requires candidates to be based in the Chicago Area to facilitate regional engagement. Lines of business include General Liability, Auto, Workers’ Compensation, and Umbrella. Requires retail insurance broker relationships in the Region and loss sensitive underwriting experience including negotiating terms, collateral requirements, and coverage conditions. The successful candidate will attend client and broker meetings, offering innovative solutions to meet coverage needs and maintain accurate underwriting records within the company’s core management system. Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience and 5-20 years of underwriting experience, specifically within casualty insurance.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess and underwrite complex National Account and large Commercial Casualty Risks (General Liability, Auto, Workers’ Compensation, and Umbrella).
- Build and maintain relationships with brokers to drive new business opportunities.
- Develop tailored pricing and coverage strategies based on risk evaluation and market dynamics.
- Negotiate terms, collateral requirements, and coverage conditions in accordance with underwriting guidelines.
Required Skills & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience.
- 5-20 years of underwriting experience, specifically within casualty insurance.
- Strong understanding of casualty risk assessment and loss-sensitive structures (Deductibles/SIRs).
- Familiarity with domestic large line casualty insurance markets.
- Ability to work independently while contributing to a team-oriented environment.
- Strong communication and negotiation skills, with experience engaging brokers and agents.
- Exceptional organizational skills, capable of handling multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other underwriting tools.
- Willingness to travel as needed within the assigned region. (5%)
- International experience is a plus.
