The Juvenile Probation Officer plays a crucial role in the criminal justice system, working to supervise individuals placed on probation and ensuring compliance with court-ordered conditions. Duties
- Supervise, counsel and conduct interviews with probationers, their families and others involved to assess the probationers needs, risks, and progress.
- Develop and implement individualized case management plans that address the specific circumstances of each probationer and their families.
- Monitor compliance with probation conditions through regular check-ins, home visits, and court appearances.
- Provide crisis management support to probationers facing challenges that may hinder their rehabilitation.
- Collaborate with community resources, social services, law enforcement agencies and local school districts to facilitate support for probationers.
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of interactions, progress reports, and any incidents involving probationers.
- Utilize motivational interviewing techniques to encourage positive behavior change among probationers.
- Prepare comprehensive reports for the court regarding the status of probationers and any recommendations for modifications to their probation terms.
- May be required to physically restrain and / or take juvenile into custody
Qualifications
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Requires a bachelor's degree in social work, criminal justice, psychology, or a related field.
- Graduate study required or candidate must have one year of experience in full-time case work, counseling, community or group work in a social service, community, corrections, or juvenile agency that deals with offenders or disadvantaged persons.
- Experience in interviewing techniques and case management is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with crisis management strategies and law enforcement practices is beneficial.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills are essential for documentation and engaging with diverse populations.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- A commitment to upholding ethical standards and maintaining confidentiality in all interactions. Must not have a disqualifying criminal history or had any type of certification revoked by lawful authority or be currently under an order of suspension.
