Overview Job Title: Director of Congregational Care
Reports To: Lead Pastor
PURPOSE
The primary responsibility of this individual is to give general oversight to Lancaster Alliance Church’s congregational care initiatives. This role requires investment in, and oversight of a variety of care needs within the LAC community, as well as volunteers and staff leadership. Investment in leader multiplication and volunteer mobilization is also required. This position requires a team-oriented individual. This position is considered full-time exempt.

Professional
- Minimum requirements include a bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Social Work, Religion, Biblical studies, or related field, and 2 years of experience in a field of compassionate care. (MSW, MSS and/or experience as part of a multiple staff church preferred.)
- Supervisory, management or other leadership experience.
- Experience conducting assessment - skilled at identifying primary needs.
- Experience with writing plans of care that effectively target planned change.
- Experience providing training, or adult education or equivalent; passionate about the development of volunteers.
- The ability to develop effective and sustainable programs and policies.
- Familiarity with and experience in applying the NASW code of ethics to practice.
- Position requires ability to obtain FBI, PA State and Child Abuse Clearances and provide evidence of eligibility to work in the United States.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Promote (with the Lead pastor) the mission of the church through compassionate congregational care.
- Lead the ongoing emergency congregational care response on a schedule coordinated with the pastoral staff.
- Co-lead (with the Lead pastor) volunteers (Deacons, Deaconesses, care team, etc.) to develop and sustain a system to manage care needs regarding needs of the congregation.
- Facilitate and coordinate visitation, transportation, meals, or other outreach mechanisms to help with congregant concerns.
- Use the organizational data program as a database/information/system for reporting shared information regarding care initiatives.
- Coordinate and/or conduct hospital visitations.
- Oversee and refine systems that comprehensively address tragic, chronic, crisis, and end-of-life care within the LAC community.
- Facilitate the work and gatherings with the Deacons for prayer and support in a confidential setting, as deemed appropriate.
- Co-lead (with the Lead pastor) the process for appropriate notifications that occur for congregant deaths, funerals, and prayer requests.
- Establish (with the Lead pastor) and maintain relationships with local organizations and agencies for purposes of congregational support.
- Coordinating and leading support groups or workshops on topics such as grief, aging, divorce, or addiction.
- Sustain appropriate relationships with a local counseling agency that can be utilized for referrals.
- To be an active participant in /member of the LAC team.
LAC Team
- Must be willing to align with the current direction of LAC and be supportive of the vision and direction of current leadership.
- Be a part of the Pastoral Leadership Team contributing to the overall direction of the church through staff meetings, direct reports, etc.
- As needed, oversee interns and workers in development for the ministry of the church and beyond the church within the C&MA.
- Meet regularly with the lead pastor to pray and review direction.
- From time to time teach in public settings within the church.
- Establish a yearly ministry calendar and budget.
- Assume other duties as necessary (in dialogue with the Lead Pastor).
ACCOUNTABILITY
- The Director of Congregational Care reports to the Lead Pastor.
- Shall participate in an annual review by the Lead Pastor.
- Shall submit written reports as requested.
