The Deputy IT Director plays a crucial role in supporting the Chief Information Officer by overseeing the daily operations of the IT department, ensuring the stability, security, and efficiency of the organization's technology infrastructure. This position involves overseeing the management of IT projects, leading and supporting a team of IT professionals, and contributing to the strategic direction of the County’s technology initiatives. The Deputy IT Director acts as a key advisor on IT matters, driving innovation and ensuring that technology solutions effectively support the County’s business objectives.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Assist the CIO in developing and executing the IT strategy in alignment with the organization’s goals.
  • Lead and mentor IT staff, fostering a collaborative and high-performance work environment.
  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the IT department, ensuring all systems and processes run smoothly.
  • Act as the CIO’s representative in meeting and decision-making processes when required.
  • Manage and oversee IT projects from conception through to completion, ensuring they are delivered on time, within scope, and within budget.
  • Monitor project progress, adjust plans as necessary, and provide regular updates to the CIO and other senior leaders.
  • Oversee the maintenance, upgrade, and deployment of IT systems, including hardware, software, networks, and servers.
  • Ensure the reliability, performance, and security of IT infrastructure.
  • Implement and enforce IT policies, procedures, and standards to optimize system performance and security.
  • Ensure IT operations comply with relevant regulations, standards, and best practices.
  • Lead efforts to protect the organization’s data and IT systems from cybersecurity threats, implementing robust security measures.
  • Manage data backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity planning.
  • Assist in the development and management of the IT budget, ensuring cost-effective use of resources.
  • Evaluate new technologies and solutions, making recommendations to the CIO for adoption.
  • Contribute to the strategic planning process by identifying opportunities for technology to support and enhance business operations.

ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Performs related duties as required.
  • Office-based role with occasional travel for conferences, training, or vendor meetings.
  • May require occasional evening or weekend work to meet project deadlines or address critical IT issues.
  • EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in information technology, Computer Science, or other related field.
  • A Master’s degree or relevant certifications (e.g., PMP, ITIL, CISSP) is preferred.
  • 7 years of career experience in technology.
  • A minimum of 5 years in a leadership position.
  • Relevant technical or managerial certifications.
  • Knowledge of the following a plus :
  • Experience working in a government environment.

  • Microsoft 365.
  • SKILLSET & OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

  • Expert knowledge of IT best practices, policies, and regulations.
  • Strong understanding of cybersecurity.
  • In-depth understanding of programming, computer science, and digital security.
  • A clear understanding of client / server technology and network architecture.
  • Strong problem-solving, critical thinking, and decision-making skills.
  • Advanced leadership and conflict management skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Great project management skills, including organization, planning, time management, and prioritization.
  • Excellent oral, written, and customer service interpersonal skills.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license, clean driving record, and be able to pass an FBI / CJIS fingerprint and background checks.
