Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented individual to join our team as a Research Assistant for the alfalfa breeding program. This seasonal position will work in a dynamic and collaborative environment, assisting with field, greenhouse, and laboratory activities.
Duties and Responsibilities
• Assist with field activities related to alfalfa research, including transplanting, harvesting, hoeing, sample grinding, and near-infrared (NIRS) analysis
• Conduct sample grinding in a climate-controlled area with a dust collection system, ensuring proper safety protocols
• Operate small lawn tractors and other vehicles to aid with tasks around the station, including lawn care and maintenance
• Care for and maintain alfalfa plants in the greenhouse, including hand pollinations of alfalfa flowers, cuttings, seeding, and sorting of alfalfa
• Perform various tasks based on the season, adapting to changing needs and priorities
Requirements
• High school diploma or equivalent required; relevant experience a plus
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
• Excellent communication and organizational skills
• Reliable transportation and valid driver's license
Additional Information
• Steel-toed shoes may be required for certain outdoor activities; FGI provides an allowance for PPE requirements
• Hourly rate: $15.00 - $17.00
