What are the responsibilities and job description for the Summer Research Technician position at Land O'Lakes?
We are excited to start recruiting for our Summer Research Technicians in the alfalfa breeding program.
This seasonal position will work in the field, greenhouse, and laboratory activities. The positions typically start at the end of April or early May and last through the fall, with flexibility on the end date.
The tasks include:
- Assisting with field activities related to alfalfa research, such as transplanting, harvesting, hoeing, sample grinding, and near-infrared analysis
- Conducting sample grinding in a climate-controlled area with a dust collection system, using proper personal protective equipment (PPE) provided by FGI
- Driving small lawn tractors and other small vehicles to assist with tasks around the station, including lawn care and maintenance
- Caring for and maintaining alfalfa plants in the greenhouse, as well as assisting with hand pollinations of alfalfa flowers, cuttings, seeding, and sorting of alfalfa
- Varying tasks based on the season
- Requiring occasional off-station day travel
Key Skills: Afalfa pollination requires attention to detail, good eye-hand coordination, excellent attention to detail, and quality record keeping.
Requirements: High School Diploma or GED, 18 years or older, 6 months of continuous work experience.
Personal Protective Equipment: Steel-toed shoes may be required for certain activities, and an allowance is provided for PPE requirements such as steel-toed shoes.
Compensation: $15.00 - $17.00 per hour.
