Job Description
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Survey Crew Chief to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will have the ability to operate a total station instrument, data collector, GPS rover, and level rod. They must be capable of performing basic field calculations, cutting and clearing survey lines using hand tools, and maintaining a clean work vehicle. Additionally, the candidate will be responsible for following basic safety procedures, taking directions from Project Managers, coordinating work efficiently, and leading and supervising one or more individuals on a survey crew.
Responsibilities
- Operate total station instrument and data collector.
- Operate GPS rover and read a level rod.
- Perform basic field calculations.
- Cut and clear survey lines using hand tools.
- Maintain a clean work vehicle.
- Follow basic safety procedures.
- Take directions from Project Managers and efficiently coordinate work.
- Lead and supervise one or more individuals on a survey crew.
Essential Skills
- Minimum of 3 years of experience working in land surveying.
- Experience preparing survey documents and running crews.
- Experience with boundary, topographic, wetland surveys, ALTA, and construction staking.
- Proficiency in creating plats, drawings, as-built, tree, and topographic surveys using AutoCAD.
- Experience working with Trimble survey equipment.
- Strong communication skills to liaise with field crews, engineers, and project managers.
- Proficiency with total station, GPS, and AutoCAD.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- High School diploma or G.E.D. required.
- Formal training in a surveying-related field is a plus.
- Strong work ethic and self-motivated.
- Ability to work in a timely and accurate manner.
- High individual moral and ethical character.
- Ability to pass a drug test and background check.
- Clean driving record.
- Ability to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC®).
Work Environment
The successful candidate will collect field survey data for various types of surveys including boundary and topographic surveys, ALTA surveys, wetland and tree locations, and construction layout. Employees will receive proper PPE while working onsite and should wear clothing that can get dirty or torn. The role involves walking long distances in woods, wetlands, and marsh areas, and exposure to bees, hornets, snakes, and other outdoor elements. The position is full-time, Monday through Friday with some Saturdays, from 6 am to 3 pm, totaling 40-50 hours per week. The candidate will meet at the office and report to the Survey Manager, leading a team of 1-2 surveyors. The location is in the Savannah area.
