Controller
Position Overview

Ridgefield Academy/Landmark Preschool (RA | LP) is seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Controller to support the day-to-day operations of the Business Office. This full-time, 12-month position plays a key role in maintaining accurate financial records, ensuring timely reporting, managing student billing and payroll, and supporting internal controls and compliance efforts.

The Controller will work closely with the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and oversee core functions such as monthly and quarterly reconciliations, credit card processing, payroll, audits, and financial reporting. This is a hands-on role within a small, collaborative team of four, ideal for someone who thrives in a dynamic environment and is ready to take initiative across a variety of financial responsibilities.

  • Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM
  • Salary Range: $75,000 – $95,000
  • Reports To: Chief Financial Officer
Core Responsibilities
Accounting & Reconciliation
  • Perform monthly and quarterly reconciliations for key balance sheet accounts, including A/R, A/P, cash, and fund accounts.
  • Review and audit payroll and general ledger entries; make system adjustments as needed.
  • Maintain strong internal controls and ensure compliance with all applicable regulations.
  • Work with the CFO on monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.
  • Assist in preparing the annual budget and review departmental budgets throughout the year.
Payroll & Benefits
  • Collect timesheets, process payroll changes, and run bi-weekly payroll in ADP.
  • Coordinate with HR on employee tax changes and benefit deductions.
  • Provide 1099 data and manage 403(b) reconciliation and annual audit.
  • Serve as primary contact for ADP Workforce Now.
  • Address employee questions related to payroll, taxes, and deductions.
Student Billing & Financial Aid
  • Generate and manage tuition and incidental billing in Veracross.
  • Handle student account updates and respond to family billing inquiries.
  • Report tuition remission and submit Dewar claims.
  • Coordinate with the Advancement Office to ensure accurate donation recording.
Audit & Compliance
  • Coordinate with auditors during the annual audit process.
  • Assist with preparation of the annual audit and Form 990.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local financial regulations.
Team Oversight & Support
  • Oversee work of the Accounting Specialist and Budget Coordinator.
  • Process weekly A/P check runs prepared by the Accounting Specialist.
  • Support special projects and ad-hoc financial analysis as needed.
Customer Service & Culture
  • Foster a customer-service mindset within the Business Office.
  • Respond to inquiries within 24 hours.
  • Maintain professional relationships with families, vendors, and stakeholders.
  • Support occasional school events as needed.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field
  • 4 years of relevant accounting and finance experience
  • Experience with ADP Workforce Now and Google Suite is required
  • Familiarity with Veracross and/or Axiom is a plus
  • Excellent communication, organization, and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Strong ethical standards and professionalism
