Overview
Ridgefield Academy/Landmark Preschool (RA/LP) is seeking a proactive and inquisitive Controller to dedicate their time and effort supporting the day-to-day operations of the Business Office, including: monthly and quarterly balance sheet reconciliations, payroll processing, student billing, credit card reconciliations, general ledger entries, and other financial analysis as needed. This individual will be part of a lean business office team of four staff members. The ideal candidate will be a dedicated person willing to roll up their sleeves and perform many different tasks, all of them critical to the proper functioning of the Business Office.
This is a full-time, 12-month position reporting to the Chief Financial Officer
Hours are Monday - Friday 8:00am - 4:30pm
Salary Range: $75,000-$95,000

Core Responsibilities
- Perform monthly and/or quarterly reconciliations on all key balance sheet accounts including but not limited to A/R, A/P, cash and fund accounting among others
- Manage the audit process, including coordinating with the external auditors and providing all necessary documentation
- Assist External Auditors with annual audit and Form 990 preparation
- Create all student tuition billing for tuition and incidental invoices for camps, extended care as well as other charges
- Make student invoicing & payment changes in Veracross as required. Answer billing questions as they may arise
- Collect timesheets, enter payroll changes and process bi-weekly payroll
- Work closely with Human Resources on employee payroll and tax changes and benefit deductions for payroll processing
- Provide 1099 data to the auditor for distribution and filing.
- Review and audit payroll and general ledger entries and make adjustments in the system as needed
- Oversee the work product of the Accounting Specialist and Budget Coordinator
- Work closely with HR on any 403(b) reconciliations and other reconciliation needs as they may arise
- Partner with the HR Director, manage the annual 403(b) audit
- Process credit card reconciliations monthly. Work with department and division heads to provide receipts for credit card reconciliations
- Process the weekly A/P check run that is prepared by the Accounting Specialist
- Assist the CFO with the preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements including balance sheets, income statements, and statements of cash flow for internal and external constituents
- Work with the CFO and Accounting Specialist by preparing the annual budget and reviewing departmental budgets throughout the year, as necessary
- Report all Tuition Remission Payments to A.G. Dewars insurance to update student tuition information. Report and fill out all claims to Dewars. Calculate expected refunds.
- Develop and maintain strong internal controls to safeguard the school's assets
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal government requirements
- Act as primary contact with ADP.
- Maintain a professional, ethical relationship with vendors, bankers, and other external stakeholders
- Respond to all communications within 24 hours by the same format in which communication was initiated
- Assist employees with questions regarding their pay, taxes, deductions, etc.
- Responds promptly to parent inquiries about student accounts
- Work with the Director of Advancement to ensure all donations are properly recorded
- Foster and support a culture of customer service within the Business Office
- Complete ad-hoc project and financial analysis assignments as needed
- Attend certain special events held by the school
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance or related field
- 4 years of relevant accounting and finance experience
- Ability to anticipate project needs, discern work priorities, and meet deadlines with little supervision
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; detail-oriented
- Customer service-minded, with an upbeat and approachable personality
- Desire to be part of a collaborative team with the capacity to work well individually
- Exceptional initiative, work ethic, and self-accountability
- Must have experience using and knowledge of ADP Workforce Now and Google Suite
- Veracross/Axiom experience is a plus
