Landon School is looking for a talented and team-oriented Staff Accountant. The Staff Accountant supports the CFO and Controller in carrying out the responsibilities of the Business Office, and enables them to focus on other administrative, financial, budgeting, and operational roles. Job Summary
Under the day-to-day direction of the Controller and in coordination with the AP and AR functions, the Staff Accountant will help to ensure that transactions are correctly entered into the accounting system, that the AP process is properly managed, and that cash-handling procedures are in place and followed.
Reports to: CFO / Controller
Job Duties Include
1. Work with Business Office colleagues to process and deposit tuition remittances, checks, cash, credit card and other payments
2. Work with Development Office to process and post contributions and pledges
3. Work with Auxiliaries team to process Landon Summer (camp) deferred revenue and other program revenue
4. Support management of cash and investments, especially within Landon’s bank accounts, and prepare weekly cash statements
5. Assist in the preparation of monthly statements, including GL reports for budget managers, and other required reports
6. Prepare bank and other reconciliations, including temporarily and permanently restricted funds available for release and/or investment (in conjunction with CFO and Controller)
7. Provide support for the annual audit and Form 990 processes
8. Contribute to Business Office team meetings, offering insight into strategic and process issues
9. Other duties as may be assigned
Requirements:Minimum Qualifications (education, experience)
1. Bachelor’s degree or equivalent with concentration in accounting
2. Five to ten years of related experience, preferably in a non-profit or school setting
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
1. High degree of attention to detail, good organizational skills; ability to prioritize and manage multiple concurrent tasks to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
2. Knowledge of GAAP and accounting systems such as Blackbaud and/or Veracross, ideally including non-profit fund accounting and experience with accounting system implementations.
3. Computer proficiency and familiarity with Microsoft 365, especially in Excel.
4. Excellent ability to communicate, verbally and in writing, with a wide variety of constituents.
5. Customer service focus and strong interpersonal skills with demonstrated poise, tact, and diplomacy.
