Landrum & Shouse LLP, a mid-sized law firm with offices in Lexington & Louisville, Kentucky is seeking a detail-oriented Paralegal in our Lexington, KY office for the Summer. As a key member of our legal team, the candidate will provide essential support to attorneys, contribute to case preparation, and play a vital role in ensuring the success of our clients’ legal matters. This person must have strong organizational skills, attention to detail, ability to adhere to strict time deadlines as well as ability to adapt in a fast-paced environment, pro-active and self-starting attitude, and effectiveness in managing a high-volume case load.
Responsibilities:
1. Case Management
- Assist attorneys in managing civil litigation cases from inception to resolution, including organizing and maintaining case files, tracking deadlines and ensuring timely case progression.
2. Legal Research and Writing
- Conduct in-depth legal research on case-specific issues, statutes and precedents to support attorneys in case strategy and preparation at the direction and under supervision of attorney.
- Draft, edit and review legal documents, pleadings, subpoenas, motions and correspondence under the guidance of attorneys, ensuring accuracy and compliance with legal procedures.
- Assemble, analyze, and summarize depositions, medical records and prepare trial notes.
3. Discovery Support
- Assist in the discovery process, including pursuing, reviewing, drafting and responding to discovery requests, organizing and analyzing documents and preparing for depositions.
- Request and draft correspondence for all medical, billing, employment, tax records and other discoverable information.
4. Client Interaction
- Assist in building and managing client relationships by responding to inquiries, providing updates, gathering necessary information, maintaining a high level of professionalism to provide an excellent customer experience throughout the litigation process.
- Facilitate communication between attorneys, clients, witnesses, and other parties, both in person and through various communication channels including email and phone.
5. Court Filings
- Prepare and file legal documents in a timely fashion with courts, administrative agencies, opposing parties and other relevant entities, adhering to local rules and procedures.
6. Trial Preparations
- Collaborate with attorneys in preparing for trials, including organizing exhibits, witness preparation and logistical support during court proceedings.
- Attend trials, depositions, and witness interviews as needed.
7. Administrative Support
- Provide general administrative support, including managing phone calls, email correspondence and handling office logistics
