JOB TITLE: Instructor of Sociology
DEPARTMENT: Academic Affairs Faculty
REPORTS TO: Department Chair
JOB TYPE: Full Time Exemption
AVAILABILITY: M - F Academic Year
SUMMARY:
The Lane College Department of Social Sciences is seeking applications for an instructor position in Sociology, effective [Fall 2025]. The successful candidate will be strongly committed to teaching excellence and dedicated to service within the department and the broader college community. This is a nine-month faculty position with a maximum teaching load of 15 credit hours. Teaching responsibilities include core and elective classes as well as activity courses. Additional responsibilities include advising, curriculum development, assessment, and service to the college and community. The ideal candidate will have familiarity with Blackboard, CAMS, hybrid/online courses, and the ability to utilize innovative modalities for delivering course content. The instructor will also be responsible for teaching major courses in various formats, advising majors, and assisting in student recruitment and retention efforts. Additionally, the instructor will serve on division and college committees, meet established deadlines, and perform other duties as assigned by the department chair.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.
- Teach undergraduate Sociology courses.
- Teach courses in traditional, blended, and online formats.
- Mentor and advise students, providing academic and career guidance.
- Participate in division and departmental meetings, committees, and community outreach.
- Help recruit and retain students.
- Meet established deadlines.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Department Chair.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Masters in Sociology or a graduate degree with at least 18 hours in Sociology
- Demonstrated excellence in teaching at the college level.
- Ability to engage with diverse student populations and contribute to an inclusive classroom environment.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
