DESCRIPTION

About the Position

This Solid Waste Operator position is based at the Glenwood Transfer Station. Duties may include, but are not limited to, operating equipment such as roll-off trucks, mobile packer trucks, and tractor-trailer rigs, and performing other duties as assigned in the performance of waste transfer and recycling-related activities.

About the Division

The Division of Waste Management oversees the management of solid recycling and solid waste in Lane County. The Division's mission is to provide, safe, responsible and economical recycling and disposal services, while respecting the environment and the communities it serves.

Schedule : Waste Management operates on a four-days per week / ten hours per day schedule. This one is Wed - Sat. 7 : 00 a.m. - 5 : 30 p.m.

QUALIFICATIONS

Training :

  • Formal or informal education or training which ensures the ability to read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance.
  • Experience :

  • Two years of experience in the operation of a variety of over-the-road transport and / or landfill construction equipment, including experience performing semi-skilled and skilled tasks.
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training that will demonstrate the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.
  • Licensing Requirements :

    Possession of a valid unrestricted Oregon Class A with required endorsements and medical card.

    SUMMARY OF COMMERCIAL DRIVERS LICENSE INFORMATION :

    Due to Department of Transportation requirements for those currently holding Commercial Drivers Licenses (CDLs), all candidates referred for interview for positions requiring a CDL will be asked to sign a consent to allow their former employers to disclose to Lane County's Department of Public Works alcohol and drug related information for the past 3 years. This information will ONLY be requested after a conditional offer of employment has been extended. Also, per 49 CFR 391.21(d), we wish to inform you that the information you provide regarding your previous employers and employment for the past 3 years may be used, and your employers of the past 3 years will be contacted, in order to investigate your safety performance history information as required by 49 CFR 391.23,(d) and (e).
