The Warehouse General Manager will oversee and manage the process and personnel of a startup life science warehouse facility, including such specialized areas as Warehouse Shipping / Receiving / Fulfillment, and the Distribution Center office.
The Warehouse GM must ensure work is being done according to all client specifications as well as company requirements of productivity, efficiency, and profitability. Setting and managing performance to meet established metrics is a critical expectation of this position. The Warehouse GM will work closely with the Director to establish annual benchmark goals for the department, including budgeting. The GM is instrumental in implementing and monitoring all policies regarding quality, safety, engineering and employee supervision. The GM must pay particular attention to security requirements of the TSA, Homeland Security, and customers, ensuring the company will pass all audits and inspections.
The GM is responsible for the effective development of employees in his / her departments, contributing to company goals of career pathing and personal and professional development.
The Warehouse General Manager is responsible for delivering all expected deliverables from their respective customers occupying their warehouse.
Performance Metrics
Performance metrics for this position will be established annually based on Productivity, Quality, Safety and other KPI metrics for the facility, revenue goals and employee turnover. Performance metrics that are provided by the customer may include the following :
- Dock to Stock” within specified time frame
- Right the first time” (RFT) inventory accuracy with specified percentage accuracy
- Order Acknowledgement within specified time frame
- Notification of discrepancy within specified time frame.
- Zero system interruption
- Reporting of all product loss, theft or diversion
- Cost savings initiatives
Key Outcomes Expected
Able to work with customers who could potentially have offices in the same facility.Provide leadership to all departments in the building, including operations managers, supervisors, quality, engineering, customer service.Implement and monitor all policies regarding the day-to-day activities in the warehouse, including adherence to all safety, security, and quality policies.Display adherence to all security guidelines as mandated by the TSA, Homeland Security, and various customers to ensure Langham passes all audits and inspections.Ensure departmental adherence to budget and budgetary restraints, ability to manage building budgets at all levels.Manage all KPI metrics and other benchmark measures to track warehouse performance. Quality, Safety, Turnover, productivity.Provide feedback to executive leadership regarding commonly occurring challenges in the warehouse operations and recommend ideas for resolution.Ensure all department management personnel are adequately and competently staffed to meet daily customer workflows and requirements.Work with the Sales, Engineering and PM Departments to provide assistance when quoting on prospective new business, planning new customer on-boarding, resolving customer issues and complaints, and responding to RFP’s for new customers.Keep senior management updated on a regular basis with activity within the building.Participation in the interview process to select new warehouse team membersAble to manage a multi-client facility.Manage proficiency in multiple warehouse management systems (Manhattan Scale, SAP)Work with multiple subject matter experts (both internal and customer) to timely complete project initiatives.Determine all regulatory requirements needed by customer and initiate all required tasks that are needed for all licenses / certificates.Critical Skill, Knowledge and Behaviors
Demonstrates understanding of the transportation and warehousing industry from the logistics perspective, including fulfillment work.Strong understanding of Life Science Distribution (Preferred)Able to manage an overall process of a department or division, including setting and meeting schedules, prioritizing, and following up on tasks, and performing responsibilities efficiently and timely (time management).Effective management skills, including recruiting, teaching, coaching, mentoring, and terminating. 4-year Degree in Business, Logistics, or a comparable discipline preferredLife Science experience highly preferred .At least 8 years’ experience in a comparable position.Physical Demands
Must be able to work proficiently with computers and other office equipment.Must be able to lift up to 50lbs.Must be able to (when needed) breakdown boxes and apply material labels on customer product as directed by customer requirements.Work Environment : Work is performed in both a warehouse and office environment.
