Lanier Federal Credit Union is looking for an experienced Loan Officer. The ideal candidate will have a good working knowledge and understanding of credit reports and will have experience in loan decisioning as well as speaking to customers/members, preparing loan documents, booking and closing loans. This position will work loans from the beginning through the life of the loan. Please note, this position is for Consumer Lending with minimal mortgages.

Job Summary

The Loan Officer is responsible for approving and authorizing consumer loans to include automobile loans, motorcycle loans, boat loans, recreational vehicle loans and other loans as assigned, subject to Lanier Federal Credit Union policies and procedures as well as the restrictions under the National Credit Union Administration which governs the operation of the Credit Union. Each Loan Officer’s lending authority and duties will be set and maintained by management according to lending experience as well as management preferences.

Examples of Job Responsibilities

  • Interview loan applicant in person or by phone to provide information on products and services appropriate for the member’s needs.
  • Evaluate loan applications and documentation by confirming credit worthiness, relying on proof of income, past credit history, credit scores and other factors as appropriate.
  • Underwrite loans to mitigate risk and exposure of the Credit Union while meeting the needs of members.
  • Work with members and applicants to identify their financial goals and assist in finding ways of reaching those goals within LFCU guidelines.
  • Discuss with member outcome of each application to include approval, counter offer, or denials by explaining deficiencies to applicants. Advise members and applicants on what can improve for a possible approval in the future and sending appropriate documentation.
  • Approve loans within normal guidelines or forwarding applications to Lending Management for loan approval if the loan amount is above authority limit or outside of policy and exceptions.
  • Complete loan contracts by explaining provisions to applicant, obtaining signatures and notarizations, and collecting fees as appropriate.
  • Obtain proper documentation for each loan and ensure verification is scanned and saved to the member file.
  • Maintain portfolio by following up applications to completion.
  • Seek out business through dealerships or referral business
  • Maintain applications and relationships via DealerTrak
  • Assist members in Mastercard area
  • Help members and applicants by answering questions and responding to requests for information while educating them about the importance of credit.
  • Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, maintaining personal networks and organizations.
  • Sell Credit Union products such as Credit Insurance, GAP, Warranties and other similar products as appropriate to meet Credit Union member’s needs.
  • Process title releases for vehicles, track receipt of titles and submit title work to the appropriate county tax commissioner.
  • Maintain a neat and organized workspace to insure efficient productivity.
  • Assist team members in any way possible.
  • Perform other tasks and duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

  • Knowledge of Credit Union products and services
  • Working knowledge of Credit Union policies and procedures and federal laws and regulations set forth by the National Credit Union Administration and other regulatory agencies.
  • Knowledge of credit ratings and rating agencies and how to use ratings to assess credit worthiness.
  • Experience in consumer credit lending
  • Skill in calculating financial data.
  • Skill in using computers to perform research and enter and analyze data.
  • Skill in providing excellent customer service.
  • Skill in organizing information and task management.
  • Skill in attention to details and in following procedures carefully.
  • Team player with desire to do what is needed to complete any task

Required Minimum Education and Experience

High school diploma or equivalent; college preferred.

Experience in banking and/or consumer lending.

Experience in providing customer service.

Physical Demands/Work Environment

Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds; and able to sit or stand for long periods of time.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $42,000.00 - $48,000.00 per year
