Lao Family Community Development, Inc. (LFCD) is a community development non-profit agency established in the City of Richmond in Contra Costa County in 1980. Today Lao Family has expanded its operations and service footprint to two additional counties including Alameda and Sacramento. LFCD's headquarters office is in Oakland, CA. It delivers programs and services from 7 locations in 35 languages. The agency provides community development real estate facilities and a diverse array of workforce, education, and human services that directly support predominantly low-income US-born high-barrier families and individuals, refugees, immigrants, transitional-age youth, seniors, and other special populations such as individuals with disabilities.
Job Summary : Under the direction of the Lead VITA Coordinator, the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program Coordinator offers free tax preparation to those who meet the IRS annual income threshold. The role of the Program Coordinator is to oversee the VITA program, including volunteer recruitment, training, scheduling, reviewing completed taxes, etc. The coordinator works with a team of volunteers and temporary staff to meet program goals by completing 2,500 tax returns. This is a temporary full-time position from February 2025 to April 2025, with an extension available depending upon the funder's request. The mission of the VITA is to assist eligible taxpayers in satisfying their tax responsibilities by providing free tax returns preparing to establish the greatest degree of public trust, volunteers are required to maintain the highest standards of ethical conduct and provide quality service.
Roles and Responsibilities :
- Serves as a point of contact for LFCD Tax Sites (San Pablo and Oakland office), United Way of Bay Area (UWBA), and the IRS.
- Ensure all site services provided are free to all clients who qualify to receive VITA services.
- Communicate with UWBA staff, IRS staff, and other tax sites to answer taxpayer questions regarding tax law and clients' tax returns.
- Monitor data review, and follow-up to ensure all returns for accurate.
- Oversee tax appointment screening and services. Serve as an administrator of appointment scheduling for tax returns.
- Provide technical support and encourage VITA specialists and volunteers to use the IRS toll-free Volunteer Hotline for advance tax questions.
- Provides tax site administration including the collection of required IRS forms, site material orders, software orders, and set-up.
- Ensures IRS Code of Conduct and Confidentiality Regulations are being practiced.
- Electronically file tax returns with the IRS within 24 hours, and resolve rejected returns in a timely manner.
- Promptly notify UWBA and the IRS of changes in site operation hours and / or days.
- Professionally represent LFCD in the community.
