SUMMARY: This position is responsible for the providing support within the student transportation services area with specific responsibilities for assisting special education students during transport to and from school and/or special activities; and ensuring the safety and sanitation of assigned vehicles.

Job Tasks Descriptions
1. Assists special education students and other passengers to provide safe loading and unloading from buses during normal transport and emergency situations. Monitors students with special needs until released to teach, instructional assistant, parent, etc. for the purpose of ensuring the safe transportation of all passengers.

2. Assists the substitute driver by knowing the route and procedures to ensure students are transported safely and to the correct destination.

3. Operates lifts and radio when necessary to ensure students are loaded and unloaded safely and that the bus dispatcher can be contacted when the driver is unable to operate the radio.

4. Secures students and/or equipment (e.g. safety vest, wheelchair, tie-downs, seat belts, etc.) to ensure safety and well-being of students. Checks equipment to make sure it is safe working condition.
Frequency: D % of Time: 10%
5. Reports observations and/or incidents (e.g. discipline, accidents, inappropriate social behavior, etc.) for the purpose of communicating rule/policy violations to supervisors.

6. Prepares reports (e.g. incident reports, passenger misconducts, etc.) to document activities, provide reference, and convey information to supervisors.

7. Understands and implements special transportation plans for each special needs student to ensure safety while being transported on district vehicles.

8. Instructs students for the purpose of enforcing rules/regulations and maintaining student safety and well-being.

9. Attends meetings, in-service training, workshops, etc. to gather information that is required to perform job duties.

EDUCATION AND RELATED WORK EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or equivalent, required

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS or CERTIFICATIONS:
Criminal background check required for hire.
Drug and alcohol testing is required throughout employment.

Operating knowledge of and experience with personal computers and peripherals; typical office equipment, such as telephones, copier, etc.; and office productivity programs, such as Microsoft Office Suite, e-mail, etc.; preferred at hire; required within 3 months after hire
Operational knowledge of school buses and district vehicles required at the conclusion of the district-provided training course
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS & DIRECTION/GUIDANCE:
Reports to: Transportation Supervisor
Direct reports: This position has no direct reports.
Carries out manager responsibilities in the role of monitoring students in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training; planning, assigning, and directing work; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
