The Larimer County Department of Health and Environment is looking for a Communications Intern to join our team!

This is an exciting opportunity to gain hands-on experience in public health communications while working with a dynamic and collaborative team. We are seeking a creative and motivated intern to assist in developing and implementing impactful public health communication campaigns.

This temporary internship typically runs from mid-May to mid-August, with a schedule of 15–20 hours per week.

What you'll be doing:
  • Assisting in the creation of communication materials on public health topics such as West Nile virus, immunizations, and air quality.
  • Participating in outreach activities during the summer, including tabling at local events.
  • Supporting the implementation and evaluation of communication campaigns.
  • Contributing to content creation for various platforms.
  • Collaborating with team members and working independently on assigned tasks.

What we're looking for:
  • Demonstrates working knowledge of journalistic practices and media relations.
  • Understands core technologies and terminology for building web pages.
  • Is proficient with editing software packages such as InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop.
  • Manages multiple projects simultaneously while planning future projects.
  • Thrives in a stressful, fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Is available to work evenings, weekends, and some holidays, sometimes on short notice.
  • Delivers effective public speaking to diverse audiences.
  • Applies communication best practices, including design, development, and management of user-generated content.

  • Sophomore-level coursework in Environmental Health, Public Health, or a related field, required.
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Driver's License required.
  • Colorado School of Public Health or Department of Environmental Health student at Colorado State University preferred.
