Salary Information:
The salary for this position is negotiated through a collective bargaining agreement.  All new employees will be hired at the minimum salary in the range and will be eligible for merit increases until reaching the maximum salary in the range.

Definition:
Incumbents perform project management functions over capital improvement projects and maintenance of existing facilities. As on-site representatives of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD), incumbents manage the work of contractors involved in the design and engineering of construction projects; manage the work of building contractors; manage the planning, scheduling, and performance of maintenance contracts and activities for all LVMPD buildings, facilities, and equipment; and supervise custodial staff.

Training, Education and Experience

Experience:
Six years of increasingly responsible experience in managing construction projects, including managing the work of contractors involved in construction design and engineering and contractors involved in facility construction and maintenance, which covers contract management and electrical, mechanical, and structural systems and repairs; and

Training:
An Associate's degree from an accredited college or university in construction management, facilities management, drafting, architectural design, engineering or a related area, or equivalent; and

License or Certificate:
Possession of a Class C Nevada Driver's License.

Best Candidates Will Have:
  • A Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited college or university in Construction Management, Facilities Management, Drafting, Architectural Design, Engineering or a related area, or equivalent.
  • More than eight years of experience in managing construction projects and facility maintenance; managing the work of contractors involved in construction design and engineering and contractors involved in facility construction; facility maintenance which covers contract management of janitorial, landscaping, including electrical, mechanical, and structural systems maintenance and repairs.
  • Current certification as a Certified Construction Manager issued by the American National Standards Institute; or comparable professional certifications in construction management issued by an accredited college or university.

Conditions of Employment
In addition to the General Conditions of Employment, found here, the following specific conditions of employment and physical conditions apply to this position:

  1. Be a citizen/naturalized citizen or permanent resident alien without conditions on status of the United States of America by the closing date of the announcement.
  2. Be at least 18 years old by the closing date of the announcement.
  3. Personal Appearance: While on duty, and/or representing the Department, uniformed or otherwise, all Department employees will be neat and clean in their appearance in public. Employees are prohibited from attaching, affixing, or displaying objects, articles or jewelry on or through the nose, tongue, eyebrow or other exposed body part, except the ears for females, while on duty. Employees are prohibited from stretching or "gauging" their earlobes. All jewelry implants will not be exposed or visible while on duty. Tattoos or branding will not be exposed or visible while on duty and/or representing the Department. Such markings must be covered by clothing. Markings that cannot be covered by clothing will be covered using neutral-toned bandages or patches except for hands, neck, head, or face tattoos. Makeup is not permissible to cover a tattoo. Tattoos or branding anywhere on the body that promote racism/discrimination, indecency, extremist or supremacist philosophies, lawlessness, violence, or contain sexually explicit material are prohibited.
  4. Participate in the LVMPD Mental Wellness Program.
  5. Office and construction site environments, travel from site to site in urban or rural areas; exposure to computer screen, unforeseen inclement weather, power tools, noise, dust, smoke, fumes, confined spaces, and high voltage.
  6. Vision sufficient to read the computer screen, as well as fine prints in documents.
  7. Hearing sufficient to hear conversations and directions in person and over the telephone.
  8. Mobility sufficient to climb, bend, stoop, reach, and kneel.
  9. Dexterity and mobility sufficient to work in the office, use standard office equipment, drive a motor vehicle to visit various Department offices and work sites; operate assigned equipment and vehicles, if necessary.
  10. Strength sufficient to lift and carry moderately heavy items such as stacks of files, with or without the aid of equipment.
  11. Endurance sufficient to stand or sit for long periods of time, as necessary

Application Screening (Pass/Fail)
Applications will be reviewed to determine those candidates who meet the minimum qualifications.  These qualified candidates will be invited to participate in the remainder of the testing process set forth below. Applicants will be notified of the results of the screening process via email.  If you have not received your notification by 5:00 pm PST on February 13, 2025, it is your responsibility to confirm your eligibility to test for this position by contacting the OHR representative listed below in the Inquiries Section.

Exam Dates*
Exam  #1:  Written Exam (Weighted 40%) – Tuesday, February 18, 2025

Immediately preceding the Written Exam, candidates will prepare a 1-page handwritten writing sample with a provided topic. A dictionary and grammar reference may be brought to the Written Exam to be used in preparing the writing sample. Those continuing from the Written Exam to the Oral Board Exam will have their writing sample submitted to the Oral Board rating panel for evaluation as part of that process.

Exam  #2:  Oral Board (Weighted 60%) – Beginning Wednesday, March 5, 2025             

*The LVMPD reserves the right to modify the selection processes and test instruments in accordance with accepted legal, ethical, and professional standards.

**Due to security reasons, personal belongings permitted in the testing facility will be limited. Items such as large backpacks, briefcases, duffle bags or similar items may not be allowed. Those items permitted will be left to the discretion of the LVMPD employees administering the examination and may be subject to a search.

Additional Selection Processes
If you successfully complete the above selection process, you will undergo a thorough background investigation, including a polygraph exam. A polygraph examination can be stressful and may affect existing medical or psychological conditions or ongoing treatment. Candidates are encouraged to consult with their personal physicians to discuss whether the polygraph will affect a condition or treatment and then follow the guidance of their medical professional.
 
The background investigation takes approximately 90 to 120 days to complete. You must also meet the LVMPD Hiring Standards.
