All LVMPD part time positions are limited to work 19 hours per week and 988 hours per year. Investigative Aide - Part-Time is paid at $27.81 an hour.
Definition
Incumbents perform a variety of investigative and related support functions for the LVMPD, assisting commissioned personnel in their primary tasks.
Investigative Aides assigned to Missing Persons will investigate unsolved missing person cases, commonly referred to as “cold cases.” Missing Persons Investigative Aides will conduct research via various computer systems to locate missing persons; interview next of kin and found persons; manage a case load; make the proper notifications and coordination when foul play is suspected; maintain logs as needed; be flexible with tasks as directed reference Cold Case Missing Persons; obtain access to and become familiar with NAMUS (National Missing and Unidentified Persons System), including contacting next of kin for DNA samples; coordinate with NAMUS and Coroner Offices; and become familiar with and work with NCMEC (National Center for Missing and Exploited Children) as needed.

This is a part-time classification not subject to the competitive requirements of the LVMPD Civil Service Rules.

Training, Education and Experience
Three years of honorable service performing investigative work in a recognized police department.
Possession of a High School Diploma, High School Equivalency Diploma (HSED) or General Education Diploma (GED).
- Be a citizen/naturalized citizen or permanent resident alien without conditions on status of the United States of America by the date of the first test instrument.
- Be at least 18 years old by the date of the first test instrument.
- Eight years or more of experience conducting criminal investigations and/or missing persons investigations with a law enforcement agency and/or the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
- Analytical and critical thinking skills.
- Good verbal communication and interview skills.
- The ability to work well on a team.
- Good work ethic.
- Personal Appearance: While on duty, and/or representing the Department, uniformed or otherwise, all Department employees will be neat and clean in their appearance in public. Employees are prohibited from attaching, affixing, or displaying objects, articles or jewelry on or through the nose, tongue, eyebrow or other exposed body part, except the ears for females, while on duty. Employees are prohibited from stretching or "gauging" their earlobes. All jewelry implants will not be exposed or visible while on duty. Tattoos or branding will not be exposed or visible while on duty and/or representing the Department. Such markings must be covered by clothing. Markings that cannot be covered by clothing will be covered using neutral-toned bandages or patches except for hands, neck, head, or face tattoos. Makeup is not permissible to cover a tattoo. Tattoos or branding anywhere on the body that promote racism/discrimination, indecency, extremist or supremacist philosophies, lawlessness, violence, or contain sexually explicit material are prohibited.
- Participate in the LVMPD Mental Wellness Program.
- Vision sufficient for reading fine prints on the computer and documents.
- Hearing sufficient to hear conversations and directions in person and over the telephone.
- Dexterity and mobility sufficient to operate assigned equipment and work in an office.
- Mobility and agility sufficient to bend and reach, as well as lift and move light items.
- Endurance sufficient to sit or stand for long periods of time, as necessary.
