HOME SCHOOLING TEACHER
DEPARTMENT : Office of Educational Services
REPORTS TO : Assistant Superintendent of Education
GENERAL SUMMARY :
Under general direction, is responsible for the overall development, implementation, coordination, and execution of the instructional program and policies, enrichment programs, and materials of the LVUSD Home Schooling Program.
CLASS CHARACTERISTICS :
This is a certificated teaching position assigned to the Office of Educational Services under the direction and supervision of the Assistant Superintendent of Education. This position requires a Multiple Subjects credential.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Develop, implement and evaluate individualized educational programs for the changing needs of each child within the needs, capabilities and perimeters of the family.
- Build instructional programs that find the innate interests, talents, passion and brilliance within each and every child while satisfying state mandates.
- Serve as liaison between the home schooling program and the individual student's school of attendance; coordinate home school and site-based programs.
- Create tools / methods to evaluate the effectiveness of these programs :
- Routinely scheduled informal interviews
- Parent questionnaires and written responses
- Student questionnaires and written responses
- Monitor the degree of student and parent participation
- Coordinate implementation of speech / language and special educational services for students as needed and if required.
- Use existing educational training tools, classes, venues, materials, framework, blueprint, facilities and other resources, as needed and as required.
- Provide a structure of ongoing and changing weekly programs and events including field trips and daily enrichment activities.
- Provide mentoring programs within the community for secondary students as appropriate.
- Provide training programs for both teachers and parents. Utilize professional resources, if possible, and guest speakers focusing on parenting and educational paradigms and techniques.
- Create alliances with and accumulate, synthesize, and implement educational opportunities in the community through the California Homeschool Network, the Link Magazine, home schooling e-groups, home schooling conferences, and other outside sources.
- Build LVUSD Home Schooling Program to eventually become a model and resource for these sources.
- Maintain a strong community presence.

Regular contact with students, parents, and occasional contacts with teachers, staff, Board of Education members, community members and outside agency personnel.
EDUCATIONAL TRAINING :
Bachelor's degree or higher; CBEST verification; valid California teaching credential
