Environmental Health Practitioner

We are looking for a full time Environmental Health Practitioner to join our team and help us protect the public’s health and safety. The successful candidate will be responsible for evaluating and controlling environmental hazards that could potentially cause harm to people.

Responsibilities include investigating complaints related to environmental health hazards, inspecting and educating food establishments to ensure compliance with health and safety regulations’ inspecting installation of water wells and private sewage disposal systems, monitoring mosquito breeding areas, regulation of body art and tanning facilities for compliance, preparing reports summarizing findings of investigations and inspections, maintaining records of investigations, inspections, and educational activities, participating in emergency response activities as needed.

The ideal candidate for this position will have a Bachelor’s degree in environmental health, biology, public health, or related field with a minimum of 30 hours in science. Desired qualities include written and verbal communication skills, strong problem-solving and organizational skills, and proficiency with computers.

LaSalle County Health Department plays a crucial role in ensuring the health and well-being of the residents of LaSalle County by providing essential public health services and working to protect and improve the overall health of the community. The LaSalle County Health Department provides a variety of programs and services to residents, such as immunizations, maternal and child health services, communicable disease surveillance and control, dental health, and mental health services. They also offer community outreach and education programs to promote healthy lifestyles and prevent chronic diseases. In addition, the department is actively involved in emergency preparedness and response efforts, working closely with other local, state, and federal agencies to safeguard the community during public health emergencies and natural disasters.

Starting Wage: Licensed Environmental Health Practitioner $25.81, Associate Environmental Health Practitioner $23.81, Health Inspector $19.81 : Employee benefit package includes 40 hours work week (Monday through Friday 8-4:30), 12 paid holidays, IMRF retirement. paid sick leave, paid vacation leave after one year, health insurance with optional dental and vision coverage, and continuing education opportunities.
