Cost Accountant Responsibilities:
- Analyze and report on product costs, manufacturing expenses, and operational variances
- Monitor and reconcile inventory costs, ensuring accuracy and compliance with company policies
- Prepare cost estimates for new and existing products
- Assist in the preparation of annual budgets and periodic forecasts related to cost of goods sold (COGS)
- Work closely with cross-functional teams to provide insights into cost-saving opportunities.
- Maintain and update standard costs in the ERP system
- Investigate and explain cost deviations from standards and recommend corrective actions.
- Collaborate with operations to perform cycle counts and physical inventory audits
- Ensure proper valuation of inventory in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
- Identify inefficiencies in the costing process and implement solutions to improve accuracy and timeliness
- Provide actionable recommendations for optimizing production costs and resource utilization
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in cost accounting, preferably within the CPG, manufacturing or related industries
- Strong understanding of standard costing, variance analysis and inventory management
- Proficiency in ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle) and advanced Excel skills
- Knowledge of GAAP and applicable regulations
- Exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities
- CPA or CMA certification
- Experience with lean manufacturing or Six Sigma methodologies
- Familiarity with food and beverage or personal care product cost structures
