Your Role And Responsibilities
The Materials Innovation Scientist will be responsible for developing new materials and/or solutions for optimization of thermal measurements. Areas of focus include coordinating internal and external resources/equipment to facilitate material growth/depositions, structure fabrication via lithographic processes, and subsequent characterization. Specific projects include the optimization of scanning probes for thermal property measurements and novel transducer materials for optothermal measurements at elevated temperatures.

Your Role And Responsibilities
The Materials Innovation Scientist will be responsible for developing new materials and/or solutions for optimization of thermal measurements. Areas of focus include coordinating internal and external resources/equipment to facilitate material growth/depositions, structure fabrication via lithographic processes, and subsequent characterization. Specific projects include the optimization of scanning probes for thermal property measurements and novel transducer materials for optothermal measurements at elevated temperatures.
Key Responsibilities:
- Identify advantageous material deposition techniques to deposit a variety of materials (metals, semiconductors, insulators)
- Coordinate material growth via these methods on various substrates/structures through either internal equipment development and/or external contracting
- Analyze the scanning probe supply chain and determine the optimal sourcing strategy as a consumable for use with Laser Thermal metrology equipment
- Perform physical characterization of materials and/or fabricated structures via internal capabilities (e.g., atomic force microscopy) as well as external contracting
- Design, construction and implementation of novel automated experimentation platforms utilizing Laser Thermal metrology equipment
- Advanced degree in engineering (mechanical, electrical, etc.) or a scientific discipline (materials science, physics, etc.) or a bachelor’s degree with work/research experience:
- Bachelor’s degree with > 5 years work experience
- Master’s or Doctoral degree
- Prior professional and/or academic experience in one or more of the following areas is desired:
- Materials synthesis and advanced metrology methods
- Nanofabrication of devices and/or structures using clean room technologies
- Scanning probe microscopy
- Hardware/instrumentation development for metrology
- Proficiency in:
- Crystallography and crystal chemistry
- Structure-property relationships related to the optical, electrical, thermal and mechanical properties of materials
- Descriptive and inferential statistical methods
- Exceptional communication skills and ability to utilize Office software tools
- Collaborative approach to problem solving, team-centric, positive attitude and persistence in the face of adversity with an innate determination to succeed
