Youth Program Specialist

Latin Americans United for Progress is a nonprofit organization in Holland Michigan serving the Latino community. LAUP’s Mission is to empower Latinos to participate in creating a better community for all through advocacy, education, and celebration. LAUP has been a pillar in the Latino community since its inception in 1964. LAUP has a renewed focus to inspire, equip, and empower the Latino community for the future.

Reports to: Sr. Director of Workforce & Strategic Impact

Status: Full-Time

Salary: $50,000 - $55,000

Schedule: 40 hours per week

Review Process: 6 months to touch base. Yearly review optional merit raise.

Vacation: 3 weeks after 90 days

Position Summary:

The Youth Program Specialist will use LAUP’s mission and vision to continue the organization's work while developing new and innovative ways to reach our targeted community. They must be comfortable creating new and strengthening established relationships with those we serve, as well as community partners and supporters.

They will play a crucial role in the development, implementation, and management of K-12 youth programs and the annual youth development conference (YDC) ensuring alignment with the organization's strategic direction. Key responsibilities include the advancement of youth programs, facilitating college visits, providing FAFSA assistance, and collaboration with our unstructured play program Aqui Jugamos. They will maintain ongoing interaction with various stakeholders, including board members, sponsors, and community members, to ensure effective communication and collaboration.

The Youth Program Specialist will lead youth instructors, schedule transportation for events, and develop communication strategies to promote participation and success by evaluating program strengths and identifying areas for improvement. They will proactively monitor progress, resolve issues, initiate corrective action when needed, and support grant reporting.

Core Responsibilities

  • Responsible for maintaining ongoing interaction with diverse stakeholders, including Board Members, Sponsors, and Community members, ensuring effective communication and collaboration
  • Design and develop innovative youth programs that align with the organization's strategic direction, addressing the needs of the community and fostering growth and impact
  • Recruit, train, and support instructors and volunteers for the programs, ensuring a diverse and skilled team that can effectively deliver services and support participants
  • Coordinate transportation logistics for all youth program-related events, ensuring accessibility and convenience for participants and staff
  • Develop and implement communication strategies that promote the participation and success of each program, engaging with various audiences and platforms
  • Generate program reports and updates, ensuring regular communication with stakeholders and the organization's leadership team
  • Develop evaluation methods to assess program strengths and areas for improvement, utilizing data-driven insights to inform ongoing program development
  • Proactively monitor progress, resolve issues, and initiate appropriate corrective action when needed, ensuring the ongoing success and effectiveness of all programs
  • Act as a community builder, establishing relationships with other community agencies that work with youth and families, fostering collaboration and partnership across sectors
  • Perform other duties as assigned, demonstrating adaptability and a willingness to contribute to the organization's evolving needs and priorities

Qualification

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred in education, social work, psychology, youth development, or comparable work experience.
  • 2 years in college advising preferred
  • 2 years in curriculum development preferred
  • Bilingual (English and Spanish)
  • 2 years experience in non-profit sector, program management
  • 2 years in a supervisor role preferred
  • Excellent writing and communication skills, including grammar and spelling, with the ability to communicate effectively with key stakeholders at a variety of levels
  • Strong commitment to the mission and vision of the organization, including diversity, equity, and opportunity for people of all backgrounds and abilities.
  • Skilled at building connections to promote meaningful partnerships with diverse external stakeholders.
  • Collaborative, detail-oriented, initiative-taking, and honest professional with a proven track record of success
  • Ability and willingness to work flexibly and remotely in a fast-paced, fast-growing, dynamic, nonprofit environment.
  • Proficiency in Google Suite and willingness to learn other systems and tools.
