Classification: Full Time, Non-Exempt, 1.0 FTE
Compensation: $23.76 per hour

CANDIDATE PROFILE
Latino Network seeks a mission driven and community service mindset individual with bilingual and bi-cultural proficiency and a passion to empower people who use drugs to improve their health and wellness to provide Harm Reduction Education, Engagement, and Outreach. The ideal candidate will have high attention to detail, a minimum of 1-2 years experience as a Harm Reduction mentor, peer support specialist or community health worker, and 1-2 years of experience providing education, workshops and/or training in the community. Must have the ability to exercise good judgment in a variety of situations, handle confidential matters with discretion, and possess strong written and verbal communication, administrative, and organizational skills.
POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Harm Reduction Education, Engagement, and Outreach Coordinator will play a vital role in educating Latino Network staff and participants regarding the opioid epidemic, its impact in the Latine community, and harm reduction strategies. Key responsibilities include providing staff and participant education and training, providing staff on-site support for activities and events that will involve harm reduction tabling, coordinating with staff who purchase harm reduction supplies, and various administrative tasks, such as scheduling and tracking expenses. This role will offer further support to staff members by providing resources for participants who require services beyond the organization’s internal offerings, which may include referrals to external behavioral health services. The role requires flexibility and collaboration across teams and departments to effectively address the needs of the organization.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide formal and informal education and training for staff and participants on the opioid epidemic, substance use, overdose prevention and response, including naloxone administration.
- Collaborate with the CHW Workforce Development Program Manager and department directors to plan and implement training.
- Provide non-judgmental support, information, and resources related to harm reduction strategies, including safer drug use practices, overdose prevention, and access to treatment and social services.
- Conduct outreach to participants and community members providing harm reduction and treatment information.
- Refer participants and community members with SUD to appropriate services.
- Coordinates with agency staff to order and provide harm reduction supplies to staff and participants
- Build relationships with substance use treatment facilities in order to make referrals to those best fitted to serve Latine community
- Maintain comprehensive and accurate records for program evaluation and assessment and program updates and funder reports.
- Attend conferences and trainings to stay informed on best practices.
- Foster a safe environment for staff and participants, encouraging open and honest conversations about harm reduction through a popular education lens.
- Work collaboratively in a team environment with a cooperative spirit.
- Abides by organization policies and procedures, confidentiality laws, professional boundaries, peer support principles, and relevant federal/state regulations and standards.
Requirements
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Must be certified as a Peer Support Specialist, Peer Wellness Specialist, or Community Health Worker, or be able to obtain certification within six months of hire, with 1-2 years of relevant work experience. Latino Network provides support to help attain this certification.
- 1-2 years of experience providing harm reduction education in the community, ideally using popular education methodology
- Bilingual in Spanish /English required - written and verbal communication.
- 2 years clean/sober with a verifiable program of recovery.
- Must have lived in recovery experience with addiction.
- Experience in outreach and community partner networking.
- Demonstrate an understanding of Harm Reduction policies, following all safety rules and standards in compliance with organizational policies.
- Understanding of multiple pathways to recovery and recovery support services.
- Knowledge of community resources and referral processes for basic needs, crisis intervention, recovery support, employment, and medical and mental health.
- Understanding of Latine cultural/racial/ethnic factors, including systemic disadvantage; acculturation, intergenerational immigrant family challenges and protective factors, effects of trauma during immigration, war, separation from family/primary supports, detention, generational trauma, and any factors related to non-dominant culture affecting mental health/substance abuse and treatment required.
- Ability to identify specific examples of experience working directly with individuals and families who identify with the Latino/e and Spanish-speaking community.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative relationships with teams across the organization.
- Demonstrated success at working effectively in a diverse, collaborative team environment, with skills in promoting inclusion and cultural responsiveness.

- Availability for evening and weekend work as needed, with flexible hours during peak periods.
