What are the responsibilities and job description for the Next Generation Lideres Volunteer Mentor position at LatinoJustice PRLDEF?
NGL is part of the Cesar A. Perales (CAP) Leadership Institute that works to increase the legal profession pipeline for first-generation college students, students from immigrant households and those from underrepresented communities.
The role of an NGL mentor is to provide a pre-law mentee guidance to support their interest in a legal career. Mentees may be high school upperclassmen or college students or recent college grads. Our program has expanded beyond the New York tri-state area to Florida, Washington DC, and Chicago.
Duties:
- Attorney mentors must be willing to interact with their assigned mentees on a monthly basis.
- The communication method should be mutually agreed upon by both parties.
- The attorney mentors must be able to commit 1-2 hours per month to participate on NGL related activities (this includes the one-on-one mentoring session).
- Mentors must be willing to review written work such as cover letters, resumes, and diversity statements.
- Also, the mentor will give advice and guidance in both personal and professional experiences of getting into law school.
- The mentor will encourage their mentee to attend group events designed to inform his/her journey.
