Position Overview:
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Dean of Academics to lead and oversee the academic programs at Laupahoehoe. The Dean of Academics will work closely with school leadership and faculty to ensure academic rigor, foster a culture of high expectations, and provide strategic direction for curriculum development, assessment, and instructional practices. This role requires a visionary leader who is passionate about student achievement and is committed to supporting teachers in their professional growth.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the development, implementation, and evaluation of the school’s academic programs, ensuring alignment with state standards and school goals.
- Collaborate with department heads, teachers, and school leadership to ensure high-quality, data-driven instruction and curriculum design.
- Oversee the assessment process, including formative and summative assessments, to track student progress and identify areas for improvement.
- Monitor academic performance, identify gaps in achievement, and implement interventions to support struggling students.
- Work closely with the Dean of Students to create academic support systems for students, focusing on personalized learning plans and academic interventions.
- Understanding of and respect for Hawaiian culture, values, and traditions, with a willingness to integrate them into day-today school operations and practice.
- Promote professional development for faculty by facilitating workshops, coaching, and providing resources to enhance instructional practices.
- Create and maintain a positive and rigorous academic culture where all students are encouraged to reach their fullest potential.
- Lead academic committees and collaborate with faculty to ensure continuous improvement and innovation in teaching and learning.
- Analyze academic data to inform instructional decisions, curriculum adjustments, and school-wide academic goals.
- Provide leadership and mentorship to teachers, fostering a culture of collaboration, growth, and excellence.
- Communicate regularly with parents, families, and the school community regarding academic progress, goals, and initiatives.
Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Education, Curriculum and Instruction, or a related field (preferred).
- State certification in Educational Leadership or a related area (preferred).
- Proven experience as a teacher, instructional leader, or in an administrative role with a focus on curriculum development and academic improvement.
- Strong knowledge of curriculum design, assessment practices, and data-driven instruction.
- Exceptional communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to inspire and support teachers, students, and families in achieving academic success.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and manage academic programs effectively.
- Experience in analyzing student data to guide instructional decisions and improve academic performance.
