The ideal candidate would be able to assist attorney Martin Schwartz by managing client cases, preparing and filing immigration petitions, collecting necessary documentation, conducting legal research on immigration laws, communicating with clients, and ensuring compliance with deadlines, all under the supervision of an attorney, to help clients navigate the immigration process towards citizenship or legal residency.
Key responsibilities include but not limited to:
- Legal research:Analyzing immigration laws and regulations to determine eligibility for specific immigration benefits.
- Communication with clients:Updating clients on case progress, explaining complex immigration procedures, and addressing inquiries.
- Government agency interaction:Filing petitions and applications with U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), attending interviews, and responding to requests for evidence.
- Case preparation:Gathering evidence, organizing case files, and preparing for hearings or court appearances.
- Translation services (Bilingual in Spanish will be a major determining factor):Translating documents for clients who may not be fluent in English, depending on the role and language proficiency.
- Administrative tasks:Maintaining client records, tracking deadlines, and managing billing.
- Client intake and case management:Interviewing clients to gather necessary information, reviewing documents, and opening case files.
- Document preparation:Drafting and assembling immigration petitions, applications, and supporting documentation like affidavits, translations, and medical records.
Skills and qualifications (Not all will be required as we can offer some training):
- Strong understanding of immigration law and regulations
- Excellent organizational and time management skills to handle multiple cases with deadlines
- Detail-oriented approach to ensure accuracy in document preparation
- Effective communication skills to interact with clients and government agencies
- Proficiency in legal research and writing
- Bilingual abilities, particularly Spanish as we deal with many spanish-speaking clients
- Paralegal certification or relevant degree in immigration law is preferred
Job Types: Full-time, Part-time
Pay: $22.00 - $27.00 per hour
