About Us
Our immigration law firm is based in the Boston Metropolitan area. Our office primarily focuses on immigration law as we seek to provide legal assistance to immigrants of different backgrounds and situations. We specialize in removal defense, adjustment of status, asylum, employment based immigration, consular processing, and other immigration matters. This firm also handles other aspects of law which often times offer a direct impact leading to immigration consequences, such as criminal defense, family law, worker’s compensation, employment law, and personal injury. For over a decade this office has represented scores of clients before the Executive Office of Immigration Review (Immigration Court) with diligence, perseverance and ethical representation being the core values of the practice. We have represented countless individuals, families and employers before not only the immigration court, but also the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), and Board of Immigration Appeals (BIA). Our office strives for consistency and excellence as we continue to represent people with immigration issues in Massachusetts, around the country, and all over the world.
About the Position
We are currently seeking a legal assistant to work full-time at our firm under the supervision of the attorney's. Fluency in Portuguese is required. Fluency in Spanish is a significant plus. Salary will be further discussed based on the qualifications of the applicant. Our office operates Monday-Friday, 10am to 6pm. We allow potential for a flexible work schedule as we take into account conflicting interests. The candidate will complete tasks around the office and work directly with clients under the supervision of the senior office staff. The primary responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to:
-Basic administrative skills, such as answering the phone, taking detailed messages, filing paperwork, making copies, and overall general office maintenance
-Assisting clients with the completion of initial intake forms, biographical information, and preparation for USCIS interviews and Immigration Court hearings
-Assist attorneys in organizing official court documents, drafting motions, and preparing immigration applications
-Contacting clients to follow up on documents, payments, appointments, and other necessities as instructed by the senior staff
-Provide translation and interpretation services
-Occasionally move off-site to accompany clients for check-ins at Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), representation at asylum office, and marriage/adjustment interviews, accompany attorney to jail visits for detained clients, and other immigration-related services
Requirements
-Excellent writing, typing, and communication skills
-Interest in legal matters, specifically immigration issues
-Professionalism and exceptional interpersonal talents
-Ability to complete multiple tasks and work efficiently under pressure
-Attention to detail; ability to create drafts based off templates, proofread, and edit
-Fluency in Portuguese required, fluency in Spanish a significant plus.
