Legal Assistant – Personal Injury
Plaintiff’s personal injury law firm in Baytown (approximately 20 minutes from downtown Houston) is seeking a Legal Assistant. Experience in personal injury law is required. Two (2) years of recent plaintiff's personal injury experience is preferred. The candidate must be able to handle a moderate caseload; multi-task, prioritize and have excellent attention to detail while maintaining organization; have a positive attitude; and an ability to function in a fast-paced environment. Must be dependable.
The legal assistant will assist with office communications and be the center of communication for and between the client, attorney, medical providers, and insurance companies; coordinate and manage medical treatment care for clients as necessary; escalate issues to the attorney as appropriate; handle client intake; gather medical records and bills; prepare demands; assist the attorney in medical bill and lien reductions as requested; prepare settlement packets and coordinate client sign-outs; draft letters and discovery responses. Responsibilities
- Assist in all aspects of personal injury cases from beginning to end
- Communicating and corresponding with clients, medical providers, lien holders, providers and others in the legal community
- Answering phone, ability to open up a new claim with insurance company. Provide, daily interaction with existing and potential clients, insurance companies, and medical providers, both by phone and in person
- Maintaining client files
- Order medical and billing records and follow-up with providers on status
- Review, analyze and summarize case files and medical records
- Preparing various legal documents, including discovery responses, pleadings, and demand letters
Qualifications and Special Skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (e.g. Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Proficiency with computers, telephone lines, and other related office equipment
- Must have strong organizational skills
- Must exercise sound judgment, work independently, and maintain effective working relationship with attorney and others
- Professional attitude and appearance
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to prioritize tasks
- Must be a motivated self-starter who can work independently and under the direct supervision of attorney
- Follow up skills

- Associates Degree or higher strongly preferred. Paralegal certificate also preferred.
- Three references including at least one former employer.
Job Type: Full-time
