ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Automated Systems Assistant performs highly responsible work in data processing and related activities in a cloud-based infrastructure at the Public Defender’s office. This is a crucial role for the success of our Information Technology department. An employee in this position is responsible for work assignments involving electronic data processing equipment operations, programming, data entry, and user support. Work is performed under the general supervision of a higher-level employee and is reviewed periodically for conformance with instructions and written procedures. Examples of duties include, but are not limited to:
- Assembles and organizes material for data input and retrieval.
- Performs periodic backup of system and user data, maintenance of storage media, and other operational duties as assigned.
- Performs preventive maintenance, cleaning, setup, removal, and transportation of service of peripheral devices.
- Enters, organizes and maintains word processing documents and provides assistance to other system users.
- Sets up queries, produces reports and interprets results for formats.
- Codes, modifies, tests and documents programs.
- Delivers help desk services to system users.
- Performs preventive maintenance, cleaning, setup, removal, and transportation for service of peripheral devices.
- Accomplishes department and organization mission by completing related tasks as needed.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
- Graduation from high school and three years of experience in operating electronic data processing equipment, including familiarity with computer systems operation, computer languages, and software utilization, or graduation from a two-year college or trade school with data processing related course work and one year of experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
- An equivalent diploma issued by a state department of education may be substituted for high school graduation.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, technical procedures, legal documents and governmental regulations. Ability to write business correspondence.
COMPUTER SKILLS
Computer skills are required including keyboarding, use of PCs, printers, etc. Microsoft Office experience required. Other more specific skills are listed in the body of responsibilities and duties.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
REASONING ABILITY
Must be able to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Must be able to evaluate problems, isolate key issues, research and develop alternative solutions.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to be mobile, speak and hear. The employee is frequently required to sit and reach. The employee is occasionally required to stand. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus.
CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Valid Florida Driver’s license.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The noise level for this position is usually moderate. The volume in some equipment rooms may be high.
