ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


The Automated Systems Specialist performs highly responsible work in data processing and related activities in a cloud-based infrastructure at the Public Defender's office. An employee in this position is responsible for work assignments involving electronic data processing equipment, operations, programming, and user support. Examples of duties include, but are not limited to:


  • Analyzes and recommends commercial systems and applications and makes recommendations concerning new program development, hardware, and software acquisition.
  • Assists with the installation and setup of automated systems.
  • Creates and maintains documentation and reporting as needed.
  • Modifies, tests, and documents programs.
  • Collaborates with managed service provider for support with ongoing issues and strategic initiatives.
  • Conducts disaster recovery testing with judicial partners in accordance with agency requirements.
  • Delivers help desk services to system users.
  • Performs system problem identification and resolution.
  • Validates backup of systems and user data, maintenance of storage media, and other operations duties as assigned.
  • Performs preventive maintenance, cleaning, setup, removal, and transportation for service of peripheral devices.
  • May assign, coordinate, and review the activities of other data processing personnel.
  • Accomplishes departmental and organizational mission by completing related tasks as needed.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE


  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology is preferred, but not required.
  • Graduation from high school and five years of experience in operating electronic data processing equipment, including familiarity with computer systems operations, computer languages, and software utilization, or graduation from a two-year college or trade school with data processing related course work and three years of experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • An equivalent diploma issued by a state department of education may be substituted for high school graduation.

LANGUAGE SKILLS


Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, technical procedures, legal documents, and governmental regulations. Ability to write business correspondence.


COMPUTER SKILLS


Computer skills are required including keyboarding, use of PC's, printers, etc. Microsoft Office experience required. Other more specific skills are listed in the body of responsibilities and duties.


MATHEMATICAL SKILLS


Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.


REASONING ABILITY


Must be able to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.


Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Must be able to evaluate problems, isolate key issues, research and develop alternative solutions.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS


While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to be mobile, speak and hear. The employee is frequently required to sit and reach. The employee is occasionally required to stand. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus.


CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS


Valid Florida Driver’s license.


WORK ENVIRONMENT


The noise level for this position is usually moderate. The volume in some equipment rooms may be high.
