QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: High School Diploma or equivalent. Special circumstances/exceptions may be considered.
Experience: Experience in cooking and preparing food.
Skills, Abilities and Knowledge:
a. Ability to assist in preparing and serving a variety of foods.
b. Good personal hygiene and housekeeping habits.
c. Ability to operate stoves and other kitchen appliances.
JOB REQUIREMENTS: Mental Concentration: Must be attentive to food preparation and safety.
Interruptions: Occur periodically.
Physical Effort: Must frequently stoop, crouch, and bend. Occasional lifting up to 25lbs.
Special Demands: Current PA driver's license and access to a vehicle.
Special Requirement: History verification showing free of child abuse/neglect by authorities. Act 33/34 Clearances and staff health assessment completed.
SUMMARY OF DUTIES: Assists in preparing and cooking family style, nutritious meals for pre-school children at the Early Learning Center.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Duties may include any or all the following. This list is intended to be representative.
1. Serves salads, vegetables, meat, breads, ladles soups and sauces, portions desserts, and fills beverage cups and glasses as required.
2. Scrubs and polishes counters, steam tables, and other equipment.
3. Replenishes foods at serving stations.
4. Carves meat.
5. Carries trays from food counters to tables for children as required.
6. Carries dirty dishes to kitchen.
7. Wipes tables and seats with dampened cloth.
8. Sets tables with clean linens, sugar bowls, and condiments.
9. Wraps clean silverware in napkins.
10. Washes dishes.
11. Assists in serving food, distributing equipment and supplies.
12. Assists with recruiting children by using community resources, staff, and parent contacts.
13. Encourages In-Kind participation.
14. Maintains strict confidentiality with respect to Head Start children, families and staff in accordance with established policies and procedures.
15. Attends training as determined appropriate.
16. Performs other related work as required on behalf of the agency.
