- Classification: Non-Exempt (Hourly), Full-Time
- Salary: $14.00 - $15.00/hour, based on skills and experience
- Schedule: Varies; typically 4-5 shifts per week, including at least one weekend day. Some nights, weekends, and holidays required.

About Us:
Lawrence Humane Society is on a mission to nurture the human-animal bond by providing shelter, care, and advocacy for vulnerable animals. We believe in supporting pet owners in crisis and recognize that pet homelessness impacts our entire community. Through field services, supportive programs, and shelter services, our nonprofit organization supports 6,000 animals each year.
What You’ll Do:
- Greet and assist visitors, providing top-notch customer service.
- Counsel potential adopters to help them find their perfect pet.
- Educate adopters on pet care, medical needs, and behavioral considerations.
- Process adoptions, payments, and donations.
- Handle animals of all sizes and temperaments safely.
- Maintain a clean and organized shelter environment.
- Accurately track animal information using our database.
- Answer inquiries via phone and direct calls as needed.
- Support and guide volunteers working in applicable areas.
- Represent LHS with professionalism and compassion.
- Adhere to all safety and disease prevention protocols.

What You Should Know About the Work Environment:
- You’ll be working directly with animals, including handling dogs, cats, and small mammals. You'll be working with lots of people, too!
- You’ll need to lift up to 50 lbs and handle animals up to 150 lbs with assistance.
- Work will take place in a shelter setting with exposure to loud noises, strong odors, cleaning chemicals, and outdoor elements.
Requirements:
- Must be 18 years or older.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Prior customer service experience is required.
- Bilingual/multilingual skills and/or animal handling knowledge are a plus!
- Experience in animal care, sheltering, veterinary medicine, or human services is highly desirable.
- A valid driver’s license and safe driving record may be required.
