Pay Range
$50.28 - $61.57 Hourly for the 538.3 Level

Job Description
We have an opening for an Explosives Inventory Control Specialist to administer the inventory management strategy and process for Strategic Deterrence (SD) Explosives Facilities. You will support LLNL’s explosive enterprise at the Livermore main site as well as Site 300, and periodically travel to the Nevada National Security Site (NNSS) as required. You will assess requirements while executing and coordinating complex technical tasks for the inventory of explosive materials across the LLNL Explosives Enterprise. You will provide advanced coordination support to utilize a computerized inventory tracking system to ensure that adequate oversight and control of explosive material is maintained. The Explosives Inventory Control Specialist will monitor, store, and maintain Conventional and Insensitive High Explosives to meet daily distribution demands, while taking efforts to minimize excess supply. This position is in the SD Operations Division and reports to the Explosives Inventory Control Associate within the Strategic Deterrence Directorate.
This position requires full-time on-site presence due to the nature of the work.
In this role, you will
- Provide advanced coordination support to independently execute critical inventory control activities across SD facilities, providing accountability, tracking, and assisting with movement of material.
- Execute daily tasks associated with technical inspection of inventory, process and approve inbound/outbound shipments of explosives and related materials, investigate discrepancies and shortages, respond to questions, and resolve day-to-day operations problems.
- Recognize areas for improvements and participate in creating appropriate solutions, maintain procedural documentation for inventory control functions and processes, perform regular cycle counts of inventory, and assist in conducting physical inventory counts across all facilities.
- Receive and track bulk explosives, explosives components, and experimental assemblies; track and log items, disposition of material, outbound shipments, and related issues; document essential data on materials while adhering to strict auditing procedures and maintaining DOE Standard 1212 compliance.
- Maintain storage area forms, records, and databases; gather, analyze, and summarize data; generate various reports and provide metrics.
- Act as the Point of Contact (POC) for local explosives inventory at HEAF and/or Site 300 and assist in the inventory of items located at NNSS; monitor and maintain current inventory; track critical compliance dates; work with owners to ensure testing is completed for ongoing compliance and safety; track orders and investigate problems; receive, unpack, and properly store explosive materials.
- Perform treatment of legacy explosive waste, utilizing various treatment methodologies to disposition explosive waste in a safe and compliant manner.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Ability to secure and maintain a U.S. DOE Q-level security clearance which requires U.S. citizenship.
- Associate degree in a technical field or equivalent combination of education and experience in inventory control or related field.
- Advanced skills and understanding of inventory control and management processes, techniques, and regulatory requirements with the physical ability to lift 10-50 pounds.
- General understanding of applicable federal and state regulations, and/or DOE procedures in the storage and handling of hazardous and/or explosive materials with the ability to become an LLNL Explosives Handler.
- Experience working effectively independently and as a member of a multidisciplinary team completing complex technical tasks.
- Experience in computer-aided databases and/or warehousing operations, administrative planning, tracking tools, and collecting, tracking, and reporting performance data.
- Proficiency with computers and other standard office technology.
- Effective verbal, written, and presentation communication skills to effectively interact with suppliers, programmatic personnel, and management with experience effectively speaking to small groups.
Qualifications We Desire
- Certified Explosives Handler.
- Knowledge of and experience with LLNL policies and procedures.

Site 300
Site 300 is an experimental test site operated by LLNL. Situated on 7,000 acres in rural foothills approximately six miles southwest of downtown Tracy and 15 miles southeast of Livermore, Site 300 hosts approximately 200 employees with expertise in such fields as engineering, chemistry, biology, and environmental restoration. Employees assigned to work at Site 300 may be exposed to the organism that causes San Joaquin Valley Fever (coccidioidomycosis).
Security Clearance
This position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance. If you are selected, we will initiate a Federal background investigation to determine if you meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or matter. Also, all L or Q cleared employees are subject to random drug testing. Q-level clearance requires U.S. citizenship.
Pre-Employment Drug Test
