Excavator Operator

This Heavy Equipment Operator position is a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers (I.U.O.E.) Local 4, which has a long history of delivering world-class results. Key Responsibilities

• Operate excavators safely and efficiently on underground utility projects (water, sewer, drainage, etc.)

• Excavate around live utilities with precision and care

• Read and interpret utility plans, site layouts, and grade stakes

• Assist with trenching, backfilling, and site prep tasks as needed

• Perform daily equipment inspections and basic maintenance

• Communicate with site supervisors and crew to maintain safety and workflow

• Adhere to all safety standards, protocols, and regulations

Qualifications

• Valid MA Hoisting License (2A minimum required)

• OSHA 10 (minimum); OSHA 40 or Confined Space certification a plus

• Minimum 3 years of experience operating excavators on utility projects

• Strong understanding of underground utility installation methods

Preferred Skills

• Experience working in tight or high-traffic job sites

• Ability to operate a range of heavy equipment

• Strong spatial awareness and attention to detail

• Team-oriented with good communication skills

• Knowledge of laser levels, trench boxes, and pipe lasers

Working Conditions

• Outdoor work in various weather conditions

• Typical hours: Monday-Friday, occasional weekends as needed

• Must be able to lift 50 lbs and work in physically demanding environments

• Travel to job sites throughout Cape Cod and Southeastern MA

EXCAVATOR OPERATOR WORK SCHEDULE

Our peak construction periods are typically in the Spring and Fall. Work is dependent on project-based needs, however a majority of our employees work 40 hours during peak periods, and as needed during off seasons. Typical work days begin around 7:00 am and finished by 5:00 pm.
