Job Summary:
The Director of Nursing (DON) is responsible for overseeing the nursing department within a 60-bed long-term care facility in Lawson, Missouri. This role involves providing leadership and direction to nursing staff, ensuring the delivery of high-quality patient care, and maintaining compliance with healthcare regulations and standards. The DON will work collaboratively with other departments to improve patient outcomes and create a supportive, compassionate environment for residents.
Key Responsibilities:
- Leadership & Supervision: Lead, manage, and supervise nursing staff, including RNs, LPNs, and CNAs. Ensure staffing levels are appropriate for quality care delivery.
- Care Coordination: Oversee the development, implementation, and evaluation of individualized patient care plans. Work with interdisciplinary teams to ensure the highest level of care for all residents.
- Regulatory Compliance: Maintain up-to-date knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations. Ensure compliance with all applicable standards and guidelines, including CMS, HIPAA, and other healthcare regulations.
- Quality Assurance & Improvement: Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure continuous quality improvement in nursing services. Lead initiatives to enhance patient care outcomes, infection control practices, and resident satisfaction.
- Training & Development: Provide ongoing education, training, and mentoring for nursing staff. Support staff in professional development and certification programs.
- Budget Management: Oversee the nursing department’s budget, ensuring efficient use of resources and supplies.
- Family & Resident Advocacy: Serve as a liaison between residents, families, and staff. Address any concerns or issues raised by residents and their families with professionalism and care.
- Emergency Preparedness: Participate in the development and execution of emergency protocols for patient safety, including disaster preparedness and response.
- Staffing & Scheduling: Ensure adequate nurse staffing through recruitment, hiring, training, and scheduling. Ensure compliance with facility staffing ratios and state regulations.
- Collaboration with Administration: Partner with the facility administrator and other department heads to achieve organizational goals. Attend leadership meetings and contribute to strategic planning and decision-making.
- Performance Evaluations: Conduct regular performance reviews for nursing staff and address areas of improvement as needed.
Qualifications:
- Education:
- Registered Nurse (RN) licensed in the state of Missouri.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required; Master’s degree in Nursing or Healthcare Administration preferred.
- Experience:
- At least 5 years of nursing experience, with a minimum of 2 years in a leadership role within a long-term care or skilled nursing facility.
- Prior experience in regulatory compliance, quality assurance, and staff management in a healthcare setting.
- Skills & Abilities:
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Knowledge of long-term care regulations, nursing practices, and industry standards.

- Proficiency with healthcare software and electronic health records (EHR).

Physical Demands:

Work Schedule:
Full-time position with occasional evening and weekend hours as needed for staff meetings, training, or emergencies.
