You will be trusted to:
At an intermediate level, you will perform tasks that fabricate raw steel according to blueprints and specifications for use in line towers and transmission substations, microwave towers, and other structures as needed. This position applies knowledge and experience in own field but is still building higher-level knowledge and skills. You can expect to receive a moderate level of mentorship and direction from supervisors, managers and/or more experienced colleagues. Additionally, this role will:
Operate overhead cranes and forklifts to load and unload steel. Drive trucks as necessary to deliver steel.
Operate steel punching machinery during fabrication process. Assist with bundling steel for shipping to designated jobs.
Sort and bundle structural steel after the galvanizing process.
Stencil, punch, and drill holes in plate steel.
Assist more experienced personnel to layout and fabricate raw steel into usable steel with cutting torch or other tools.
Assist more experienced personnel to resolve the manner in which work is to be performed.
Assist in the repair of shop equipment (punch press, welding equipment, etc.).
Perform routine and repetitive tasks related to fabrication of transmission steel and substation assemblies.
Operate handheld manual tools and power tools in performing repairs.
You qualify with:
One or more years of experience in a steel fabrication environment using equipment such as forklifts, overhead cranes, punch presses or relevant experience.
You are a great fit with:
Knowledge of welding procedures; heavy equipment repair methods; and steel structures
Skill in the operation of steel punching machinery; crane and forklift operation; and in heavy equipment operation
Intermediate skill in reading and interpreting diagrams and prints; and in verbal and written communication
Basic skill level in office productivity applications (such as email, word processing, spreadsheets, etc.)
Ability to work in a team environment
Work Environment:
Works in a structural iron environment with exposure to noise; various and sometimes extreme weather conditions
Work involves weekends, holidays and non-standard hours; and call-outs as necessary
Works at heights up to 100 feet
Work requires use of protective equipment
Work involves exposure to high speed rotating machinery
Work involves exposure to high temperature/high pressure vessels
Physical Demands:
Work involves frequent finger/hand manipulation in using hand tools and operating equipment; and occasional climbing, crawling, crouching or other non-sitting positions in performing steel fabrication tasks
Work involves constant standing and/or walking in operating steel punching machinery
Occasionally lifts and carries up to 80 pounds and pushes or pulls up to 80 pounds
Work involves climbing of ladders or structures less than 20% of the time
