Description:
The Quality Control Inspector plays a critical role in shop operations by providing the final check of completed assemblies to ensure they meet all quality specifications prior to being shipped to the job site. This includes verifications of material size and grade, dimensional accuracy, welding, bolting, and relevant coatings. In addition, the Quality Control inspector works upstream to conduct in-process checks to reduce rework and answer questions related to layout, fit-up, and drawing interpretation. This role also works closely with shop leadership to help coach and train new teammates to help them be productive as quickly as possible.
Quality Control Functions:
- Working upstream, performing in-process and final checks.
- Communicating quality requirements to Production personnel.
- Aiding third-party inspectors.
- Monitoring welder qualifications with production assignments.
- Documenting rework incidences and communicating them to QC Lead.
- Sharing best practices with Production personnel.
- Verifying members have final piece mark/tag and are routed properly for any coating application.
- Documenting inspections for final record.
- Providing any additional support to the department as necessary.
Qualifications:
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- A minimum of two years experience in structural steel fabrication, welding, or a similar degree.
- Interests in destructive and non-destructive weld inspection.
- Strong blueprint reading abilities.
- Ability to work/lead small groups and solve problems.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office software and electronic data collection.
